Dr. Duke is the best professor I've had at ASU. The man will make you work, but you will learn so much. This class helped me to interpret the Old Testament so much more effectively, and it helps not just with the Old Testament but with any type of text. He is the nicest man you will ever meet and an outstanding professor.

Duke is one of the best teachers I have had and I have become a better student by taking his class! He does assign a lot of homework, so if you are not willing to work for your grade then do not take him, but he is willing to work with you if needed and will help you out in any way he can! If you are looking to actually learn take Duke!

Dr. Duke is a very kind hearted, respectable professor. It is clear he cares that students are really learning. There are regular homework assignments that do take some time, but there were no major papers. The test prep guides definitely prepare you for the test if you follow them closely. Taking him again next semester!

This class does take up a lot of your time, but Duke is one of the best professors I have ever had. He gives plenty of extra credit that made a huge difference in my overall grade. He truly cares about his students and will do anything to help them learn. It is a tough class, but if you do the work you'll be fine.

Be prepared to spend hours doing the assignments out of class, that he might not even end up grading. The study guides were lacking but he does offer extra credit

this is one of the most unorganized and irrational courses I've ever been through. He wants you to be extremely specific yet will mark off for being too "long." his tests are almost impossible to study for (even with the test prep) and you sit through his lecture with little to no knowledge coming out of it. be prepared to do homework for hours

Duke. Wwhere to begin? The guy has been at App for decades and what has he done? This applies to this class, as a semester feels like decades and what will you accomplish? It's like he is punishing you the student for his own lack of bone fides. AVOID.

Some claim that he doesn't teach enough facts about the Bible. I say he goes one step further. He teaches you how to intelligently read and interpret the Bible so you can talk about it without sounding like an idiot. That's so much better than being taught historical facts I could just google if I wanted.

If you don't feel like working don't take his classes. However, if you want to improve your reading and writing skills and learn some interesting stuff in the process, sign up for as many Dr. Duke classes as you can. He makes you work for the grade you get and he respects a solid work ethic.

Dr. Duke wants his students to succeed and if that means being a tough grader and having high expectations he will do it. He once called my paper a though dump, but he instantly told me every way I could make it better. He is not only a good teacher, he is a good person and after four of his classes I can say he is a rare breed. Take his class!!!!!

Dr. Duke is very knowledgeable on this subject however his lectures are quite long and sometimes it is hard to follow along. There is at least one assignment due every class and usually I have the most homework for his class. His test are very hard to study for and he is very harsh on grading them.

Dr. Duke is a very nice guy, but his grading is very tough. If you don't answer the question 100% the way he wants it you will not get credit at all. He also assigns a good amount of homework.

Like taking a high school class again. Boring lectures with little information. Majority of work is done outside of class. Very detailed tests with tough grading, Grades are set up where tests and homework are both equal parts of your grade. Still uses participation grades... Very nice guy at least. If you have the chance, avoid this class.

Dr. Duke is one of the best teachers I've ever had. This is definitely a class that you have to work hard for your grade. There is homework every night, but it's not hard. You have to show up to class to pass. I really liked how organized his course was. He is such a nice man and genuinely cares about his students. Apply yourself and get an A.

Dr. Duke is very helpful and he is a nice man. The class I took was more focused on literary aspects and "rhetorical intentions" of the Bible more than anything else. Not really what I expected, not particularly challenging. Homework isn't bad but tests are hard. Would not recommend to non Christians. He is subconsciously a bit biased in my opinion

I took Dr. Duke's class as a freshmen, and I truly loved it. Don't let his syllabus intimidate you! He is very organized, knows the material he's teaching, and genuinely cares about his students. He asked every single person how the tests went after they finished, so sweet. Pay attention, do the work, participate in class, & you'll do just fine!

Dr. Duke is a tough professor, and gives a lot of work. But what I learned from his OT class I can apply to future classes. He teaches you how to read the Bible through giving you strategies you need to read and understand the Bible, rather than telling you what each verse is saying. Prepare to work, but he's worth taking! He's a great professor.

I took this class for my language credit, and while Biblical Hebrew is very hard, Dr. Duke makes it interesting, engaging, and tries to make a hard language easy to learn. He is really understanding, and tries his best to help you learn and understand the language. Go to his office hours if you need further help. He will help you!

His Bible and Science is by all means tough, and requires a lot of reading, reflection, and discussion. But while it requires much of that, it is also really interesting. Dr. Duke is a really interesting professor who tries to present all sides of the arguments, and brings in speakers. Definitely take this class with him. He's a great professor.
