Took Prof Pope for Russian & East European politics. It was an enjoyable class, and man, if his analysis of Russian geopolitics hasn't proved prescient these past 8 years. Get a few friends and ask for this course back on the menu. It's good stuff.

I don't like politics but I enjoyed the class. He can get on tangents but the class flies by sometimes. READ THE BOOK AND ONLINE ARTICLES! lots of test questions. Go to class, take the notes, attend 1 study session and do 6 reading questions. Pretty easy to get A or B

Three grades: midterm, paper, final. He dropped everyone's midterm. I received a 69 on the term paper, 4 points lower than my midterm score, even when I consulted with him twice and included all of his recommendations. It appears that his class will be the only C on my transcript.

He's all right, except for when he enters "preachy" mode. Its obvious that he has a liberal bias. That's fine, if he focuses on facts, but it's not fair of him to make attendance mandatory and then sit there teaching his views as truth. Its probably slightly worse this semester with the election, but it really gets old fast-at least if you disagree

Despite what everyone says about Pope he is a good teacher. Hes always willing to help students out, you just need to schedule an appointment with him. His tests are hard, but it's all about reading the questions carefully. I can't express how many points I've lost because I wasn't reading the questions carefully.

I often feel bad for the guy because so many people give him****. He's cute in that old grandpa kind of way where you can't help but feel bad for him. The class is hard but it's because he cares more about what you get out of his teaching then your actual grade. Be careful though, he only gives out 300 points the whole sem.

Just started the semester but so far, he seems like kind of a jerk. Goes out of his way to make things more difficult/complicated than they need to be, and spends more time complaining about how incompetent our other teachers were than being a competent teacher himself. He requires attendance for a class that is more or less him rambling on and on.

Pope gets a bad rap. He expects his students to put in effort. He likes to hype the image of a Prof that wants you to fail and at the start of the sem that seemed to be true. But if you take the time to understand his thought proccess and intentions for the course the exams get easy and the class gets fun. Dont stress over the paper its meaningless

Worst professor EVER! There is required attendance for a class that is boring and pointless. He spends more time talking about Russia and talking about useless stories than actually teaching the class. Don't even bother studying for the tests becuase he even says he is trying to trick you and wants you to FAIL! worst EVER

I respect Dr. Pope, but his class is very disorganized. The clarity of the assignments is non-existent. Also lecture has become a regurgitation of previous anecdotes. I do enjoy the research aspect of this class, but there is much that could be improved about how the class functions as a whole.

I am interested in politics but this class is quite boring and whenever someone says an example the teacher corrects him/her. I am also a good writer and have been for years, but I don't believe anyone can understand what he is looking for in a paper. He needs to learn how to write. Tests are also poorly written and he is very hypocritical.

Good teacher. Although his endorsement of Capitalism is annoying, he's a smart guy and he has a lot of real world experience. His tests are easy as long as you pay attention to the wording.

Had him for POS 101. I think he gets a bad rep. His tests are all about the wording, once you get used to that you're ok. Going to class and doing the practice tests will get you an "A" if you really try. Don't let the paper get you down, it's not really worth that much anyway.

Not a bad class. Learn how to take his tests! Ask him questions during tests. As soon as you get a practice test, study it! You can get away w/o reading the textbook, but only if you pay close attention in class. Sometimes, things get really boring, but make sure to get complete notes. The paper isn't too hard; I got 32/40 with just one draft.

This professor's teaching style was easy to understand. I found his tests were rather hard. I studied for them a lot and never got an A. I am rating him low because out of all my classes this semester this is the only B I got. A GPA of 3.75 my first semester isnt bad it would've been better if I had another teacher, get the other teacher instead.

GET HELP ON HOW TO TAKE HIS TESTS FROM THE START His tests questions are confusing but if you get help they make alot of sense because he uses direct words that make the right answer stand out if you know the material. You have to think like him to pass tho and the paper is impossible but I still passed with a B. Nice guy tough teacher.
