Comment:

I ended up with a good mark, an A- ,but I still wouldn't take her classes ever again. I don't mind toughness as long as it leads somewhere, but I felt like I was being pushed into her narrow minded agenda and her psychological issues and she said unhelpful statements to myself as well as others "you'll never succeed" and "you're just not good."

Taking her class was a huge mistake. She does not explain her expectations for assignments very well and her marking can only be described as draconian. On the bright side, I did appreciate the feedback she gave me and found it helpful. However, that didn't make up for the rest of the class. I was so miserable.

Literally the worst class I have ever taken in my whole life. Zoe is the most horrible teacher I have ever had the misfortune of having. She is mean, cranky, close minded, and extremely moody and judgmental. I would rather stick my hand on a hot burner than attend this class. I have nothing good to say about her at all. Do NOT take this class.

Zoe Landale was a horrible teacher, she didnt like other students opinions as well as the fact made one student feel bad just because he didnt like swearing in one short story. She gives criticism like its nothing.

Don't take Zoe if you're not serious about writing, and if you can't handle serious criticism. She's tough. Sometimes it seems she's not fair. But Zoe is the best prep for the real writing world you're ever going to get. She speaks the truth, and she doesn't give a crap about your feelings. If you can't hack it, stay away. Serious writers only.

I was very interesting in taking this Creative Non-Fiction class, but was very disappointed with the results. The class was online, and I felt it made the ability to receive important critiques nonexistent. I do not feel like I learned anything from this class. Zoe's comments were very negative and sparse and best.

Not only do i highly recommend you not take her, i do so SO much that if it is the only CRWR available, wait a semester. In my previous CRWR classes i've gotten A's and great comments, here i'm struggling to get above 50%, and the comments she gives barely help. Way i see it, unless your at world class writing level, she won't give you good marks.

Went from a's in my 4 other cw classes to a c in her class. Basically a bully. Ironic that she teaches "creative writing". Can you think of Hitler instructing the Nazis to think out side the box, talk about their feelings, respect others' differences, slap hands (not faces)? Zoe makes Hitler look openminded and approachable. Glad I'm out!

no chilli pepper for this old bag. I took her creative writing class straight out of high school ten years ago. Anyways, she wrote on one of my papers, quote, "this is terrible work". At the time it pretty much destroyed any confidence i had. Unprofessional, and clearly doesn't care about supporting her students. Zoe is a terrible teacher

Took this professor 3 years ago as an English Major with a CGPA of about 3.5. I received my only C-. Everything that everyone has said here is true, every single one. Try if you must but even if you "stick to the fine print" and follow all of her rules you will get shot down. Stay clear of this one.

I read through all the negative comments about this instructor and foolishly decided to take her class anyway. All the negative remarks are TRUE! She gives brutal critiques and assumes her students are completely idiotic. I feel bad about the time and money I've wasted on this class, but most of all I feel sorry that Zoe hates her job so much.

Trying to get answers out of her via email is like pulling teeth. She simply does not respond, and gets agitated when you pursue clarification. If you get on her bad side, she?ll hold a grudge and demonstrate it in your marks. Pursues petty technicalities regarding late work, which does nothing in terms of educating. Vague criticisms and feedback laced with passive-aggressive comments make it seem like she?s here to judge you rather than teach. Makes one obligatory phone call to students in an effort to convince them of her desire to help, but does nothing but re-iterate her posted criticisms. Online class seems more like a chore than a job to her.

I think Zoe dislikes teaching. Her grading/feedback is arbitrary, discouraging, unfair, vague and unhelpful. I learned NOTHING new in this class. I got top marks on critiques and reading assignments yet crappy marks on my writing. Plus, this woman has hurt my feelings with her harsh marks and comments more times that I care to recall. I am a fourth year student in a specialized program, so I took this class as a "treat" for my own interest. I wish I'd just bought the textbook and joined a book club. I found her feedback to be vague and dismissive, and often I doubted how carefully she read my work. Very disappointing and frustrating class, totally discouraging.

Many ppl in the class think they're awesome writers and, in reality, they SUCK ROCKS. These are most likely the ppl here whining about how "mean" Zoe is. I am an A student and took this class as an elective and I found it to be the most time consuming and hardest class I have ever taken at Kwantlen. She is not organized, wont admit to when she makes a mistake, and doesnt give constructive comments, its either her way or the highway!
