He is a nightmare. i wouldn't want anyone to take this class with him since he teaches the most easiest concepts but makes the tests really hard.

I showed up to one lecture all year. The class is a huge joke, just make sure you goto the review sessions and you should get an easy A or B.

Never went to lecture because always just ranted about newspapers and politics. TA's were kind of helpful. Online book helped A LOT and homeworks are a lot but are very helpful.

Not a lot of homework, but assigns readings due weekly. Wastes a lot of lecture time talking about things not related to the course, and is pretty boring. However, he teaches economics well and has study guides and sample tests online before every test.

Lectures aren't super exciting, but he's a genuinely nice guy. He tries to connect the material to the real world, which is good, but it takes up a lot of class time, so you have to use the textbook to teach yourself sometimes. A lot of homework, but I definitely needed it to understand the material.

Tests were tough but he hooked us up with a 15 point extra credit assignment right at the end of the semester. Not hard to get an A because grading is not just based on tests.

THIS PROFESSOR IS SO UNREASONABLE! WILL DO ANYTHING TO PREVENT YOU FROM PASSING! SPENDS TOO MUCH TIME TALKING ABOUT NEWSPAPER CLIPPINGS AND POLITICS (p.s. he is extremely biased). WILL OFTEN DIVERGE FROM TEXTBOOK, TOO MUCH H.W, TA'S DO NOT GRADE TESTS WELL ( TA's grade differently), STICKLER ON PLAGIARISM, even when cite and quote he will penalize

He posts all of the lecture slides online so I skipped lecture often and still got an A. Lectures get kind of boring, so if you don't pay attention/don't go, make sure you read the book. The discussions were helpful, material wasn't too hard. Over all not a bad class, just keep up with the weekly online homeworks which boost your grade.

Accessible office hours but belittling professor when you ask him questions on points of confusion. Was really disappointing to come to him with questions and be treated poorly. His intent doesn't seem to help students learn rather chastise those who don't understand the material he rattles off in class.

Prof Janis is a pretty good professor, and the class is a really easy A. If you read the textbook at all, study on your own, and go to lecture it would be really hard not to get an A. He is a very nice guy who is approachable in office hours, even if he is not an amazing or exciting lecturer.

My biggest regret about this class was buying the book for almost $200 (don't buy the book!) To get a B+ in this class, all I did was attend the weekly discussion, complete the homeworks (googled everything), did well on the 2 papers given all semester, and go to the practice exam review sessions. TAs were extremely unhelpful.... avoid this class

Janis knows his stuff, but tends to go off on tangents about the government. Very repetitive. He posts his slides and as long as you skim through the chapter in the book you should be fine. Discussion sections are where you learn the most and things start to make sense. Never taken an econ class and the discussions helped me a lot.

Avoid this professor. I took his class for my junior year writing requirement and I wish I had taken it with a different professor. His lectures are confusing and unorganized. He wastes more than half of the class with material that is irrelevant. His grading is unclear, and if you go to office hours he will only confuse you more.

He basically reads off the power points and then posts them online, going to discussions is mandatory, depending on the ta you wont learn much there either. Your better off just reading the text book and teaching yourself. However he tell you the answers to the extra credit questions during class. so if you want extra credit on the test go to class
