Comment:
SLS preferred kiss ups who memorized the texts to those who actually wanted to discuss the material. She also fawned over the boys (all 3 of them) in the class. This was probably my least favorite class at Conn, and I was a history major.

Intelligent, witty, sarcastic and utterly brilliant! She is a tremendous, passionate teacher with tough, demanding standards that bring out the best in her students. She is a force to be reckoned with, a woman of strength, which may intimidate men - their loss. Enjoyed both classes with her immensely and highly recommend her.

Comment:
The greatest history professor at Connnecticut College. A person who delivers a genuinely thoughtful lecture every class, and one of the few who despite being liberal offers a balanced curriculum. Do the reading, take good notes, and write a thorough exam, you'll do fine. Even if you're a conservative male, like me. Her retirement is Conn's loss.

One of the most intelligent, informed, profound professors I have met. Many people fail to grasp her style or wit because they're so used to the orthodox, simple, textbook approach that almost every other undergrad prof uses. She is far more concerned with disseminating knowledge than grading tests.

She expects a lot on the huge final exam. Gets off on tangents in class a lot, but interesting lectures. Very smart. While she has a very liberal bias, I think her rants are funny. I got A's in both classes w/o too much trouble. Just be sure to get the right documents for the final. NOT TOO BAD!

Comment:
The worst professor I've had. She was tangental, arrogant, and dull. She's a finicky, fastidious grader: it's about pleasing her, not showing your knowledge of a given subject. Thinking about the class makes me shiver.

Worst professor I've had at Conn. Her classes are generally boring, even when you are discussing interesting material. Also, her grading is unusual at best, and mathematically impossible at worst.

Ridiculous final exam, graded unnecessarily hard. Only three grades for the entire semester and the final in 50%. She should RETIRE!

variable--has much to offer but often gets off-track for entire class, no rapport with students; always the 1st to leave the room when class is over.
