Palmer's classes aren't easy, but they are informative. He'll expect you to view material outside of class, usually in the form of short online articles or videos. If you miss a class for a good reason and are a decent student, he's usually willing to help you out by sending you the lecture audio. Taking notes is very important in a his classes.

Avoid this professor! I'm sorry but his lectures were so disorganized and all over the place. His exams are gruesome and if your answers don't sound exactly like he says it, you'll flunk. This is especially challenging since he's hard to keep up with. A slideshow with pictures does not tell me squat.

Tough and cocky but can back up what he says. If you take this class be ready to read and write a lot. That said, he makes the material interesting and is very clear in his expectations. He also provides study guides and other material. A good professor overall.

Dr. Palmer's "Russia and the Great War" class was by far the best class that I have ever taken. He is also my favorite professor, hands down, and I am working on my second masters. Dr. Palmer has high expectations, but if you're spending your hard-earned dollars and want to learn a ton, take his class!

He has a not entirely undeserved reputation for being a curmudgeon, but he is extremely helpful and an excellent lecture. Palmer is probably one of the smartest people in Morgan Hall. If you are willing to work hard you will learn a lot.

Prof. Palmer's History of Flight Culture was the best class I've taken at WIU. Very interesting and unique. LOTS of videos and music clips. More like a "show" than a lecture really. The webpage helped allot. Not too much reading and if you pay attention the exams are not tough (he gives you the key terms) If you need a gen ed class, take it.

Dr. Palmer has a reputation for being a very demanding instructor. He is. But he is also a great lecturer. Technology class met once a week in the evening for 2.5hrs and there was NEVER a dull moment. He's very helpful when asked. Highly reccomened

I took Professor Palmer's online HIST 126 class. There is virtually no interaction with Professor Palmer. He assigns readings from the textbook and online sites on the syllabus at the beginning of the semester. Gives no feedback on any assignments. Drops study guides on Blackboard a few weeks before tests, and they aren't particularly helpful.

wouldn't recommend to take as a freshman, for an 100 level class it is all essay and you basically have to listen to everything he says and be taking notes constantly to get the big picture and definitions to do good on the tests.

My belief is that as long as you can base your observations with facts, history is open to your interpretation. But only if you have the facts and proof. Palmer does not feel this way nor does he show any compassion towards his students. He wants mindless people that act and think like he does. Also he's as arrogant as they come.

Great teacher, take notes on your own and you'll be fine. His lectures in class aren't exactly that clear but he knows what he's talking about. Tests are easy enough if you study, and quizzes are even easier. He's also pretty hot. Sit in the front row.

Palmer is the most worthless teacher I have ever had in college. He is smart, but that does not matter if his lecture is all over the place. He makes it really clear that he doesn't want to teach 100 level courses. He has made me hate history because of his attitude. He never takes time to slow down and clarify the information.
