I don't know why so many people are scared of Dr. Su! He really knows his stuff and want his students to be able to understand it as well. He offers office hours and frequently tells students to come to them. If you go to lectures and do the practice tests and homework, you will do just fine.

I honestly do not know why Su has such a bad reputation. I thought his class was enjoyable and had clear grading criteria. He adds humor in his lectures, which makes the class even more enjoyable. If you are a good student and work for your grades, this is a good class. If you do not care to work hard and learn on your own, find another teacher.

Easy class to pass if you use your resources. You are given practice quizzes that are nearly identical to the quizzes and tests. 10 chapters, 10 quizzes, 5 tests. You can also opt out of the final.

I absolutely hated this class. I couldn't understand a word he said. Didn't use the $150 book once. He just read off of his slide shows so if you missed a lecture they were hard to understand. I do not recommend this teacher at all.

Dr. Su is a nice man, but I found him hard to follow as a lecturer. He sometimes gets confused when going over examples and does not do well explaining his reasoning. It is evident he is passionate about chemistry, but he can be difficult to follow. I've taught a lot of the concepts to myself outside of class.

His accent is too thick for the front of the lecture hall to understand, let alone the back ( 20th) row.

Comment:
Dr. Su is a bit hard to understand at times. He tries his best at explaining, but sometimes does not get the point across. He does however have quizzes after every chapter and a test after every 2 quizzes. He provides review questions which are very similar if not the same question on the test and quizzes.

Comment:
If you take Dr. Su, be prepared to teach yourself everything. He has notes you can print off but they are unhelpful and he makes a few mistakes in each chapter. The "pop" quizzes he gives are easy and the tests are difficult. Told class, "if you don't get it, drop my class". Avoid him and take a professor that will do the teaching for you.

Make sure you sit towards the front. He is funny if you listen to him closely and follow along with his lectures. Never used the textbook. Do all of the review questions that he provides you with before taking "pop" quizzes and exams. Questions are similar.

Dr. Su is definitely passionate about what he is teaching, however it is very hard to understand him during his lectures. He never worked problems to completion when giving examples and didn't go into detail very often. I had to teach myself most of what I was supposed to learn in this class.

Dr. Su knows everything he is teaching no doubt(...he just does not know how to teach! He does not work out problems. He does have an opt out of the final but you better do well all semester long. I had an A in 160, 161 AND 171 but came out with an AWFUL grade for 170. Unless you can self teach yourself, I would not take this course with Su (h

Came into the class having received an A in 160, but this class was awful. Professor Su provided examples in his notes, but had steps in each problem that gave no explanation for how he got there. He would also never work out problems to completion, so a lot of times you had to try to self-teach yourself. Even after attending every single class.

Don't be scared of having him as a professor. Class is super easy, Dr. Su is hard to understand and that is to be expected. He allows a opt out of the final option which is great. If you can do the practice test and homework and understand what is going on, this class will be super easy.

Attended all but one class and struggled throughout the entire semester. Example problems in the notes were always out of order. Due dates on assignments weren't changed from the previous year and were very confusing. Dr. Su didn't provide a single copy of the periodic table to students until the last test of the semester. Ridiculous. Avoid him.

I was so excited for this course going into it. WORST CLASS THUS FAR. He made it so boring and he was tough to understand at times. I would rather change my major than take another course with him. (On a brighter note, he seems like a good person, just not my first choice when it comes to a professor). If you must take him, be ready to work.

Everyone struggles to stay awake in this class. Dr. Su's lectures are boring and important info isn't presented concisely in the notes, AND he makes several errors and typos. I had near 100% in 160 and was very excited for 170 but am struggling to even pass this class. Also, Dr. Su doesn't give extra credit on assignments & tests. Your call.

Dr. Su is not a very good teacher. He is not very clear and goes too fast during lecture. Not helpful when you go to see him outside of class either. Best to avoid him.

Shujun Su made Chemistry 170 my least favorite class to date. He is hard to understand and his lectures are fast and boring. Don't get me wrong, he is a nice guy but he doesn't seem too willing to help either. Most of the time, I had to read the book and go over the power points myself. My advice, avoid him.
