Steve is an incredibly insightful and entertaining professor. I wasn't sure of my interest in poetry prior to my first class with him, but he's helped solidify it this year. He knows his stuff very well, tells great jokes, and has a positive and productive attitude. Highly recommend taking any course with him.

I found Steve to be very interesting some classes, then again very dull others. If you get on his bad side (like I did due to a few missed classes) your mark will be lowered. Sometimes his comments can be useful, but other times it seems like he is just pushing his own wishes/stlye into your poem. But it was a fun class in the end.

Steve knows what he is talking about in terms of fiction. He is informed and, above all other things important in a writing professor, he encourages and doesn't meddle with your individual voice and style. This is someone who can see each piece of writing on its own terms and help improve it from that basis.

Great teacher. He seems to have a preferance breivety over some of the longer flowy prose poems that I like to write sometimes, although it hasn't affected my mark negatively.

He is a great teacher, I wasn't looking forward to having to take English but i am glad now that I have taken it with him. His ancedotes are funny and he is very compromising if you think that topic you thought up for an essay was better than the ones he had assigned.

Engl 115 with Steve Guppy was the most useful, practical class I have taken in all of my 4 years at University. He teaches all of the grammatical basics that one should know in a very clear and painless fashion. He's a fair marker, and a really nice guy.

Steve is an excellent teacher. He has some great anecdotes, and even though the course is about writing, he always takes time to answer our q's about the publishing process as well. Steve marks you on how well your story/poem is written, not on style.

I don't know what all this "marks well if you write in his style" **** is about. He marks you well if you write well, and if you write poems about the squishy wishy adorable puppy, he is more than willing to help you write better.
