Prof Merriam comes off scary/strict but it's evident he cares about long-term student success. There's three major projects that make up your grade, with a group proposal paper/presentation at the end. He gives a lot of feedback and is clear with what he wants, so the only way to fail this class is to not try. Take him!

Extremely nice professor! Care about his students. 3 major writing projects and he breaks them down in a way that makes things easier. Just follow the instructions, don't miss class and it should be easy A. One project is building a resume which is very helpful. Last project is a group project with a short presentation (2-3 minutes each member).

Great Professor. Kind of a lot of work but if you put in an honest effort and make improvements where he suggests and your peers reviews suggest you will do well. He is very clear on what he wants is more than willing to help and give good feedback.

A really great prof who will learn your name and is super accessible to give feedback on your work. Felt like the first business class that will actually prepare me for real life since it involves writing a resume, cover letter, bad news messgae, etc.

Steve is a great professor that remembers everybody by first name, and a fair grader who emphasizes a lot on peer review. The class consists of three projects. Each of them will help you not just in writing but also personal/career development in general. I came to this class just to fulfill requirements and walked away with so much more.

Merriam was such an awesome teacher, and I'm not the type that likes very many of my teachers. He brought his dog to class sometimes and had helpful assignments for business (aka writing resumes, cover letters, etc). Final project was a lot of work but it was split up well so never overwhelming. Wish I could take him for another class!!

Recommend Merriam 100%. Seriously, take him. He actually created the content for business RWS 290 so he is very concerned with how students do. Easy going, very knowledgeable, caring. Lots of assignments but he works with you to complete all of them. As long as you do your work you can get an easy A. .

Chill professor that prepares you for the real world. Lots of little one page assignments that are tedious, challenging but helpful. Two big projects and weekly quiz on reading. Not a hard class really, just have to stay on top of it.

I LOVE Dr. Merriam. He's such a kind person and it's so easy to learn from him. The grading criteria is very clear, and he provides great feedback for all three projects. Seriously, don't skip out on this professor. I learned something about business writing every day from him and wouldn't hesitate to take him again.

My favorite professor I have ever taken. I could email him questions on my resume right now and he would remember me and provide me with great insight. I left the class learning something new each day. Make an effort and you will do great. If your group brings you down be honest in the evaluation and you will do better than them.

Easily the best professor I've had at State. Genuinely cares about his students and is ridiculously knowledgable. Learned more useful information in this class than I have in every other class I've taken combined.

Excellent professor who really cares about his students. Highly recommend taking this class with him. An A is definitely achievable if you put in the work which isn't too overwhelming. Two group projects which could be difficult based on your partners. Quizzes are a little annoying but not too bad. He does take attendance.

He's incredible. One of the most respectful professors I've had. He's very good at giving feedback and helpful in getting ideas for topics and assignments. Quizzes are a little difficult if you don't read but they're manageable. Only problem I did not like were having group assignments in short deadlines but overall a great person and professor.

Professor Merriam was a pleasure to take. He made the class a straight forward as possible. He made the material incredibly interesting and applied it to realistic events that we will experience in our careers. I would suggest taking the night class that meets once a week. We were almost always released early. 1 resume, 1 Report and 1 Proposal.
