If you take him for lit, know that his his lectures are just him recounting things he's read, & asking if you read them too. It's engaging at first, but it gets old as you realize he's aimlessly waffling. Rude & patronizing outside of class. As aptly stated by a previous user: "Absolutely unhelpful, vindictive, condescending egotist." Well said.

He's an awesome prof and I'd really recommend taking a Russian class with him if it's something you're interested in. he's very clear about different concepts and structures of Russian. as long as you show up for class you should have no problem grasping the concepts he puts forward.

This prof is passionate about his work and his research. he speaks many languages and he has lots of tricks to help you learn. He is intellectual and challenges the orthodox thinking, he is perceptive and has a great memory for students names. He is quite sarcastic but altogether inspiring. He is personal and caring. koodos to Dr. Durrant!

Loved his classes! He's very understanding if you need extra time. He knows his stuff and is able to effectively communicate the course material. Not a heavy course load, pretty laid back. He can tend not to be punctual. He's also really entertaining and has lots of fun stories! Would recommend this class to anyone !

Pure lecture - no interaction. When he does pose a question, he cuts the answerer off shortly after they give they answer he was looking for. Seems to really like the sound of his own voice. Caught occasionally sourcing his lectures from Wikipedia. Knows a lot but he makes it hard to pay attention with 50 straight minutes drivel. Sharp Dresser.

Superb prof, very dry wit, operates in the English style and is therefore seemingly more aloof than his counterparts in the department. Those who claim to have been insulted most likely did not understand his humour. Extraordinarily knowledgeable, will explain in detail and with precision.

Absolutely refuses to act professionally in class, which is a shame because he is so knowledgeable. Insults students constantly, classes lack direction, but you may just learn something if he can stop sighing for 10 minutes. The only students that liked him were the ones who didn't realize they were being insulted. Downright rude.

Absolutely unhelpful, vindictive, condescending egotist. Will "mentor" students when it suits him but have no time for them otherwise. Has very low expectations of students. Habitually unpunctual. Covers little material in class and is very disorganized. Marks arbitrarily and doesn't read term papers. Good luck if you have him for a language class.

Certainly a very creative professor! He likes what he's teaching and makes his classes hilariously interesting and fun to learn! Everyone learns at a different pace and he tries to compensate for that as well, so that no one feels lost. You will get a good mark and an interest in further pursuing Russian at the end of the term- that's his goal.

Easily the best professor I've had and one of the best at MUN. Very intelligent and definitely works outside of the box. Very open to new ideas and ways of approaching things. Great sense of humour and a fascinating person. Stresses working on one's own to better one's language ability but fully appreciates class discussion as well.

Very much a teahcer's pets kind of guy IMO. He was okay, and I found him a good teacher, but really showed too much favouritism. If he liked you, you got an A (that's how I found him, anyway). Knows his stuff, though, and had some interesting anecdotes about Russia.
