this was one of the hardest classes i've taken, but also one of the most rewarding. if you want a class where you are pushed to learn, then take brody. if you want a class where you can skate by with little effort, maybe you don't belong at ucsd...

This is a difficult class, but I learned a lot from it. I took BICD 100, CHEM140A and CHEM6BL in the same quarter and I thought BICD 100 was the hardest. Clinics are a must b/c lectures' concepts are not given enough explanation, instead he talks a lot about his past life. He also doesn't give out +/- gradings.

He's hard! But you do learn a lot, so I don't regret taking him. He forces you to think and pushes you beyond your ability to learn. I haven't learned so much in a class as I did in this one- I'm glad I took him. You don't need the book, so don't buy it. Just go to section, clinics, and lecture and you should get at least a B. He's funny too!

I have mixed feelings on Brody; I hate him and sort of like him. He has a lot experience with genetics and is very knowledgeable, but doesn't teach it very well. He's interesting to listen to, but when you get to the tests, you feel hopeless, but some how, you can do it. I don't know how to explain it, it's just weird. I wouldn't take him again.

this is the hardest class i have taken at UCSD. it requires a lot of effort, and you have to learn a lot on your own (clinic is a MUST). hw takes hours, but if you know it, you'll do well on tests. never used the book, just lectures and hw. i loved this guy, the class and the challenge. you can't cram for him you HAVE to truly learn. curve is fair!

I love him. He's a really nice person and obviously knows a lot about genetics. However his homework is RIDICULOUS. I have never spent so much time on a class before. And his midterms are near IMPOSSIBLE. I love him as a person but I hated the class. If he's still teaching I feel bad for his future students. GOOD LUCK!

not an extremely clear lecturer. very knowledgable, but lecture style does not facilitate notetaking. it's a combined class though, two profs. gorman was more clear. tests are easy.

Dr Brody is awesome! He is so smart and very organized. yes there is mandatory homework but it's an easy way to get points if you go to the clinic. Plus, the midterms are almost identical to the HW problems he gives. He is also super funny!

Brody gives very challenging homework, and the test are also challenging because of the time crunch. But overall if you study to understand the homework and review last year's homework and midterms then there is no reason to read the book and you'll get a good grade in the class.

Prof. Brody is a very intelligent man. He's been teaching genetics for 30 years so he's a pro.. however, I think he expects his students to know too much.. a lot of us always got lost during lectures. I studied my butt off for this class and barely passed.. tough class.

He's a funny old looking guy. His lectures are pointless b/c he skims through the material and does not go in depth, you basically end up learning on your own and from the TA's.. word of advice, make a study group that consists of at least several people who understand a good amount of the material, go the clinic and do the prob sets ahead of time

Lectures just give you idea of the topic, no problem solving help, so TA's will be teaching you that part. He likes to crack jokes and lecture is tolerable but you can work on problem sets by just referencing the book and going to TA's. Tests are hard but practice tests and problem sets will prepare you a bit.

This guy is BAD ASS! If you have to take genetics, take it with this prof. He's a funny dude in OH and lecture. Only class I've seen that everyone still came to class the whole quarter! HW's are hard, but boost your grade and prepare u for tests. Hella ppl go to prob. sessions which makes it fun.

Before entering Genetics, I had never taken a bio class in college. Fortunately for me, this was more of a math class than a bio class. Brody is a very funny guy and very enjoyable both during lecture and office hours. The only bad thing is the book is a COMPLETE waste of money, don't buy it.

his tests are ridiculous, he is kind of a jerk - very snooty i guess you could say about his background. lectures do not at all reflect the exams......class is basically taught by TA's - if you don't go to section you are screwed.

Pretty hard class and I came in thinking genetics was easy. The tests really tests you and the homework can take hours of critical thinking. People were confused out of their minds in this class. I came in knowing a lot of genetics already, but that only helped sometimes. Still, love the guy. Funny and nice.
