Worst prof ever. Do no take a class with her. I have never posted a mean review of a professor until now. The previous reviews explain most of the student's frustration with her and her classes so I don't need to reiterate them. I graduated from McMaster over a year ago, and I still regret taking a course with her.

Took her class years ago, thought of her today. Still remember her as the worst prof I've encountered in my short life. Ruined my experience at Mac. I found her rude, uncaring, unapproachable, closed to new ideas, and not that bright. If she likes you and your ideas, you'll be fine, so get on her good side. What drives people to act like this???

Where to begin, Fast is a disaster!! Very rude, sassy, unapproachable, never willing to help, and just overall a terrible person. She needs some attitude adjustment courses to help her out. Even participating in class was intimidating because she would just brush you off. SAVE YOURSELF DO NOT TAKE A COURSE WITH HER!!

Awful professor. Terrible lecturer - all over the place. She also lied to an entire class and TA's about the final exam. Good TA's and easy assignments but Fast is garbage

I didn't find her too approachable but her lectures were pretty interesting albeit very long. Textbook was absolutely necessary and tests were pretty confusing 'cause she's a big fan of the A and C, A and B, none of the above, etc. format. The listening lab was EXTREMELY helpful. If you had any confusions, def. go to those.

Literally the worst mistake I have ever made. Taken as an elective and failed due to her inability to just make tests how they should be and not a test to see who knows the best mix between answers A and B, B and C, C and A or all the above. If she wants to be taken seriously maybe she shouldn't TRY to make material harder than it really is.

Comment:

Class is in the evenings, but midterms on Saturday mornings for some reason. Tests are meant to be tricky, confusing multiple choice. Almost every question has all of the above, none of the above, a&c only or b&c only. Studying general concepts won't get you anywhere because the midterm questions are extremely specific. Textbook necessary.

Tests do not reflect the class material. Additionally, nearly every multiple choice question on midterms have options such as, A and B, none of the above, A and C etc, you get the point. This makes it nearly impossible to prepare for unless you possess an abundance of external knowledge and time. Overall I would not recommend this course.

Literally spends 30 minutes talking about things completely irrelevant to the course during a 3 hour night class. Midterms are a poor reflection of course material and preparation she says needed. Would not recommend taking this course as an elective.

i think she tries to stimulate discussion and ideas but i didn't find her knowledgeable or smart. after reading her academic work, can't say i'm too impressed. i'm somewhat disappointed to have had her as a prof. the class readings were great tough.

Generally material is presented well and follows the textbook pretty closely (One of the articles in the book is written by Fast). However, Fast herself isn't very approachable, MC questions are purposely misleading, and prof isn't very accommodating at all.

Took this class for an easy elective and ended up dropping it after the midterm. Fast teaches the class thinking that everyone has a prior knowledge of the elements of music. I was consistently confused in lectures. There were constant technical difficulties which cut into class time and lecture. Avoid unless you know music.

I took pop music with Dr Fast last winter and sadly it was one of the bigger disappointments of my three years at mac. she seems like she tries really hard to make a functional class but things are always disorganized and you never get your test marks back until the last minute. you also need to study the textbook thoroughly to succeed on the tests

Pop Music post WWII: Dr. Fast chooses excellent topics for discussion during lectures, but she's boring. As a music major, I find the terminology simple. I think the communications students will say the same. There needs to be an essay in the course. I like a challenge and Dr. Fast does not present one. I will not take another course with her.
