She is super nice in teaching 116 java, gives TONS of extra credit on exams. Overall and easy A+ class.

She really only reads off the slides. She is rude to any students who don't immediately grasp concepts. Her grading policy is ridiculous. If you have never studied Java before, don't take her class, because you won't get much better than a C. If you need help, ask the TAs because she is very condescending and you won't get much out of it.

She barely knows anything about C. Often times contradicts herself in class. Lectures seem very poorly prepared.

This class really requires you to apply yourself and practice what you are learning. If you keep up and do the exercises you will be fine, otherwise prepare to struggle a little like I did. The projects are a bit steep and graded tough. Her lectures aren't the best, she goes fast with little explanation which makes learning java a little tough.

She explained the course material well and the in class excersises helped with applying what you were shown in lecture. Tests and projects all seemed fair as all the material on these were covered in class. Overall this course really helped me gain a firm understanding of program, as it focuses more on the programming concepts.

She's a nice lady. She wants to help students but just seems to glaze over material without much explanation. She's pretty strict on food and drinks in the lab but always gives a break in the middle of class. Projects/Tests are fair and there are many extra credit opportunities. Also, she does answer emails promptly.

Comment:
Ms. Balik's tests are easier, just review the practice tests she provides. She never answers her email and is a bit unreasonable as far as grading and grading disputes. Her presentation slides are typically blank but she doesn't like you to type or write while she's teaching. It makes it very hard to be able to go back to the notes to review.

Good professor for an introductory course. It is an easy class if you have any programming experience.

Dr. Balik is helpful, but needs the TA's and TA office hours for beginner students to benefit enough in order to take on the course effectively. She posts helpful practice tests, but students need to know about the practice tests. I think she was fairly nice.

Class is taught expecting prior knowledge of programming and concepts. People that didn't have this really struggled. Otherwise its pretty easy. Attendance is required and checked through the turning in of assignments after class. There were 6 projects taking 1.5 each hours. Two tests and they were pretty easy. Overall, good teacher.

Dr. Balik is a slide reader and usually seems uninterested in being friendly and helpful to her students. Avoid this instructor unless you like to be treated and spoke to like a kindergartener. I felt she was rude and spoke in a very condescending tone to her students

I was completely new to programming but I read a modest 6-8 pages from the book a day when I could and everything seemed to be easy for me. If you don't read the book, however, and are new to programming this class is not for you unless you don't mind a C

She is better suited to teach upper-level CSC classes. If I hadn't already had Java, I would have had great difficulty with this class. I don't know how the beginners got through it. She seemed annoyed when students asked questions. Ask the TAs for help, not her.

Comment:
Teaches the course at a very rudimentary level, but the projects are significantly more challenging. Those that are already familiar with programming will find it to be a basic course, those that never written a "hello world" program before will find it to be very challenging. I felt like they encouraged weak students to not pursue the CS track.

She was pretty friendly and helpful in class. The last 3 projects in this class were too hard for an intro course. It made me want to quit CSC.See the TA's for help! If you have little to no programming experience coming into this class you're going to have a rough time towards the end, if you have strong programming experience you should be fine.
