Professor Vasilyeva is very funny and easygoing, so long as you do your work and study. She does not have high tolerance for incompetency. As for the course itself, please learn the alphabet beforehand. By the time the semester was halfway over, my class had lost a good third of its members. I had no problems, but I cannot say the same for others.

Professor Vasilyeva has easily one my favorite professors the entire time I've been at Mason. She is extremely helpful, funny, and a great professor. The class itself is very hard (as it should be), but if you put in effort, she takes notice and rewards students. I learned so much from her, and I would definitely recommend her to anyone.

She has good but also very negative qualities. She expects students to do their best, and respects students who do. But she can be very mean on a personal level if she doesnt think you are tryingn. She will do this in front of the entire class. There is a dif btwn being a stern teacher and just personally mean. She does both unfortunatly.

As long as you always show up to class prepared Prof. Vasilyeva will be a good professor. However, if you are an average student, then I do not recommend this class at all for you. She does have a way of tearing those students who are struggling apart. You have to be a very self motivated person for this class. I learned a lot, but it was hard work

Tatiana Vasilyeva is a wonderful teacher! She has great stories to tell about her life in Russia; makes you feel like you are learning much more than the language. The class is hard work, there is no sugar-coating it; but if she sees you putting in effort she is always ready to help. She is friendly and warm, and quite funny. Her accent is pretty!

So the material itself was hard based on the amount we had to learn. Nevertheless I learned a whole lot from her. She is dedicated and knows what she is doing. Wonderful native speaker. I cannot wait to take classes with her again. You will learn tons from her. Not always easy but then again it should not be. She def makes you learn the material.

Dr. Vasilyeva is an outstanding professor. She has a sarcasatic sense of humor and there is never a dull day in class. The way she teaches is a bit demanding on non-natives, but even native speakers get quite a bit out of it. I've taken 302, 303, and 480 with her. She is very helpful and I cannot recommend her enough.

So this class was very demanding in itself. Two hours three days a week, but this woman made stuff easy and fun. I looked forward to class everyday. Being that she is a native speaker she helped us develop strong accents and she also could teach us cultural aspects very well. I highly recommend this professor. I'm def. taking another class of hers!

Extremely intelligent and fair teacher. She DOES teach the Cyrllic alphabet at the beginning of the class. If you're willing to pay attention and do the assigned work, you'll get a lot out of this class, she is definitely one of my favorite teachers. Anyone leaving a negative comment is most likely a slacker, which she does not tolerate lightly.

She figured since most the people in my class took Russian in high school that she would skip over teaching the Cyrillic alphabet. for the rest of us, we were totally lost. Made class very nerve-wracking and unpleasant. Also, very hard to understand, which made the class 10X harder than it should have been.

She comes off as very intimidating, but if you put in the time and the work, she's very understanding and helpful. While her classes (302 and 303) were the most demanding I've experienced, I learned the most from them. Attendance and participation are a must, if you show up and speak up in all her classes, your grades will show it.

Any post saying she is hard, a monster, or demanding is completely false! She wants her students to do well and her students DO do well. Just put forth a little effort and you will do fine. She isn't demanding, she just hates it when you don't try. All she asks is for you to try. So try on your 5 orals and 5 compositions. She's super funny & caring

Her class is one of the most difficult classes I've ever taken, but its worth every second, and I've learned SO much in this class. If she sees that you work hard, she'll work hard to help you, and you're grade will reflect it. If you want to slack or skip class, don't take the class.

She made a beginner feel very comfortable. Her accent is a little difficult to understand at first, but you get used to it. It was great having a language professor who actually grew up speaking the language. I reccommend taking her!

I highly recommend this professor. She's demanding, but kind. You'll get a good education from this woman. I don't advise a complete beginner take the intensive beginning class - the biggest problem people seemed to have with the class is that several of them were way out of their depth. I had no problem, but I came to class with some background.

Dr. Vasilyeva-Roberts is a good professor. She is hard at times but that is the only way one can really learn. She is very helpful and funny. If you really want to learn to speak Russian you must take her class. You will be rewarded for your hard work, although it can be intimidating at first.

Dr Vasilyeva has done a very good job in teaching our Russian conversation class. She is really a sociable and humurous woman. She has yet to yell at anyone in the class. I think that the earlier posts may be exagerations. I would take her again in a heartbeat.

This professor is an excellent scholar. The comments bellow are OBVIOUSLY from students that did not belong in her class. She is fair, willing to help, and very sufficient in her teaching. If you want to LEARN Russian then take her class and prepare to give your best! If I could take all my Russian courses with her then I would.

The class sucked. She only spoke in Russian, and didn't explain things in English. I had no idea what was ever going on.
