While he is a great person, funny, passionate about the topics he teaches and knows what he is talking about, his tests, and just classes in general, are so hard. Plus, for a first-year seminar class, I think it is ridiculous. I have to take him for another class, and I'm absolutely dreading it.

His classes are so hard that he's practically a therapist considering how many students have breakdowns in his office. That being said, he was one of the greatest influences on my college career. He really cares. I highly suggest going to talk to him about future plans.

This course is for first-semester freshman but is actually taught like it's for biochem students. It was an incredibly difficult course, and he did not explain well. If you use his office hours, it can be much more helpful and he is a great person who genuinely cares about his students. The content is just way to advanced for the students taking it

Comment:
This FYS was incredibly hard and focused on delving into very advanced topics in biochemistry. When approached for help, this professor seems nice, yet is belittling and has very little time to dedicate to each individual student. I would not recommend this course under ANY circumstances because it is far too demanding for first year students.

Hagan is very intimidating at first given his reputation as a difficult teacher, and though it is true that his classes are EXTREMELY hard, he is a nice guy. He will help you if you go to his office anytime, it helps to have him explain concepts over and over.

Comment:
Dr. Hagan cares about his students but is an awful teacher. He gives no clarity, is always busy and has little time to help, and grades like no other. His tests are mainly on information not covered. This freshmen seminar dove into minute details of biochemistry instead of overall addictions. It seems like an exciting class, but is a bust.

I don't understand why everyone hates Dr. Hagan. It's probably because they are lazy and didn't feel like putting in the work. His tests are difficult. I will say that, but if you go to the review sessions and his office hours, you will do fine. He is the nicest guy I know. I stop in just to tell him about my day. Hard grader, but a good guy.

Horrible class, teacher, subject matter, work, term paper, exams. Everything. Do not under any circumstances take this class. It is the worst unless you really love biochemistry and know everything about it. Worst class I have ever taken. Regret this class so much, did not learn anything and struggled the whole time. Overall worst class ever.

Dr. Hagan is wonderful! as frustrating and completely insane as his class can be, i truly learned a lot and loved every minutes of it. he generally cares and is always willing to help his students succeed. his high intelligence makes his class extremely difficult but if you work hard, it isn't impossible. he truly loves what he does and it shows

The most helpful professor I had this semester, his class was by far the most difficult but definitely the most interesting. He really knows what he's talking about (he knows almost too much) and it always willing to help you out, you just have to ask. Really invested in his students, really enjoyed having him.

he was by far the worst teacher I have ever had. He made me hate everything we learned about and chemistry as a whole. I dreaded going to his class and ever seeing him around campus. He does not care about his students, grades so hard and is horrible at explaining things to students. NEVER take a class from this HORRIBLE man.

Great but tough professor. Teaches students to be strong researchers and writers. Passionate about his subjects. You do learn more from a tough teacher. Grow up all, you are in college now.

This class is the worst class I have ever taken in my life. For a freshmen sem it is soo hard and he expects it to be a 300 level science class. He does nothing for advisory and always is unclear on what needs to be done. He comes off as nice but really changes into a self absorbed ignorant man

Never ever take your freshman sem with this man. He is so unclear in his discussions in class, and expects outrageous things, like researching at medical centers too far away. He favors people that suck up to him, and grades horribly.
