Dr. Rivers' sailing course was extremely relaxing and an easy elective to take. He takes on the role of the overseer so isn't actually on the boat with you; but rather, you get to know the skippers who own the sail boats you'll be on. Everyone I met through this course was genuine and down-to-earth. It was certainly worth it.

seriously. He was just ridicuouls. There is way too much material to read and this class was just a joke. you can hardly understand his questions and he pretty much sets you up to fail--with reading 20 things a week who has time for another class? i mean jesus christ i just hate this guy. he needs to lighten up. The best prof at USI. I do not understand these other postings. Obviously, these poor ratings are not the work of serious English majors dedicated to knowledge for knowledge's sake. Hated this class! Definitely don't take as a night class. He only spends about 10 minutes going over the material you have read and then spends the rest of the 2 1/2 hours just rambling on about nothing important. He just likes to listen to himself talk and will never answer any questions! He is the worst teacher I have ever had.

I took this during my first semester in college and it was TOUGH. I often pulled all-nighters writing the papers. He makes absolutely no sense in his lectures so i totally zoned him out and just focused on the readings and wrote about my thoughts and got an A.

What a waste of time. I have never felt good about missing a class until now. He is a self-absorbed, egotistical, passive-aggressive prick. He plays favorites and never answers questions. When you have the number of dropped students that he had, it should throw up a red flag to the administration. Get rid of tenure; get rid of Rivers!

Vague about expectations. Actually gave a quiz on stuff that was supposed to be read in the NEXT class and then bonged us for not reading on a holiday... without being told to. Never answers questions in class. Seems either irritated by them or goes on and on and on without answering them. This guy sucks bad. I wish I could afford to drop this.

He does not communicate in a linear fashion. He rambles and does asides on asides on asides. His syllabus is very unclear; when asked what stuents needed to do, he seemed to be deciding right then. The worst lecturer I've ever heard (and I've heard a lot). Vague, unhelpful, uses pompous words and makes unclear references. Run. Save yourself. Run.

Oh this guy is a total nut job! Between the insurmountable hw, his imaginary characters, inappropriate use of profanity, & abuse of students, he's a useless professor.
