Although I was in her last lecture at UBC, I just wanted to talk about how amazing of a professor Tineke was. She was the most sweet and enjoyable professor that I had all year. I teared up just hearing that she was leaving UBC. Thank you for everything professor Hellwig. You most definitely deserve the title professor emerita. Good luck to you :)

I had very little knowledge or interest in SE ASIA before taking this course, but this prof has really made me want to pursue future study/work in the region. Very nice person, cystal clear requirements, and interesting guest lecturers. I really recommend choosing to take 209 with Dr Hellwig as one of the 200-level Asian studies requirements.

Engaging novel selection, clear course framework. This prof is very organized. Just be prepared for a lot of in-class student discussions which don't amount to anything particularily interesting, intelligent or insightful about litterature!!!
