Comment:
Blackmon is great. He gives you good feedback on your stories and encourages you to write publication worthy material, but he won't demand it on the first draft. He is always respectful and expects effort from his students, as he should. His grading system is unique and takes some understanding, but if you do what you're supposed to, you're gold.

Comment:
Blackmon does do a 10-15 news update on events happening in the English department at the beginning of the class because attendance for these events can be quite low sometimes. In class critiques remain open forum and respectful; if you don't get to speak, it's because you didn't ask to, not because you're a woman. (I'm a girl; I won't shut up)

Comment:
The actual critiques are fun and helpful. It can get tedious when he goes over business at the beginning of class and sometimes his talks can get longwinded, he seems to come up with stuff on the fly. Emphasizes getting published, but does not really follow up or go through the actual publishing process.

Comment:
Blackmon should have been removed from his post years ago - for human rights violations and because he's one of the dumbest professors I've ever met. Then again, getting an A is pathetically easy since he usually grades papers about six months after assigning grades.

I have no idea why such a brilliant professor is receiving bad reviews, but he is fantastic, really puts a lot of thought into the feedback he gives you, and the atmosphere in his class is great. He knows what he's talking about, and he wants you to get published, and to think about publishing.

I disagree with others who've posted reviews of him. I do not believe he "plays favorites" with men. I'm a woman and I was called on at least once a class to contribute. He also gave great criticism on improving your story. I believe those that call him unhelpful are the same people who are of the opinion that their writing is already perfect.

Uninspired and uninspiring, passive-aggressive, encouraging students to tear each other down.

I suspect the people that didn't like the class are the bad writers that can't be convinced they're no good.

Completely worthless. About as helpful as a zit on your butt or in the middle of your forehead. If you can avoid the class, do it. He sucks.

This guy doesn't care for literature - his class is all about marketing your writing to target readerships. In addition, he is extremely vague. He almost never calls on women, but plays favorites among the men. Nonetheless, I don't know how anyone could not make an A.
