Wendy is great, her classes are tough but very interesting. There is a lot of reading, and the discussions in class are based off it. Paper feedback isn't amazing but she's awesome in office hours.

Wendy Kozol preaches discussion, then immediately shuts you down for saying anything that bothers her. She immediately did not like me and acted like I was less than her. She treats students like crap and unless she loves you, she hates you. I wish I could get out of this stupid class.

Comment:

Assigns a lot of reading and expects everyone to have a perfectly thought out analysis before each class. If she asks a question and no one answers right away, she jumps to the conclusion that no one did the reading and chastises everyone, which I find counterproductive. Grades very harshly and clearly expects certain answers. Would not recommend.

Meh... pretty doctrinaire and institutionalized. The content is worthwhile but feels super formulaic--- she will drill certain words into your head for sure but one wonders if she can speak outside of her sort of precious academic discursive niche. Factory-made or something.

I've taken intro, feminist research methodologies, and a seminar with wendy, and you definitely either love or hate her. Intro to GAWS sucks no matter who teaches it, but in non-intro classes, she's amazing. completely brilliant, very helpful, but prone to mood swings, so she can be a bit difficult to talk to.

She taught my favorite class so far! Great readings and discussions. I don't think her grading is weird. You have to analyze quotes and not just insert them. She's on the the teachers that makes you go the extra mile, but it's worth it.

Can come off as real old school hyper-academic in class, but in office hours, she is incredibly approachable, friendly, helpful, and fun to talk to. i agree with previous comments- readings are awesome, class discussions are interesting, but her grading system is kind of incomprehensible.

I was the only male in this class. Kozol was a quirky and eccentric professor. I found her easy to follow, but the rest of the class didn't (probably because they didn't do the reading). It's true that she could have given more useful feedback on papers, but her choice of readings was excellent, and I learned a lot from her class.

I often didn't understand what she was looking for on assignments, and the feedback she gave on my papers made me wonder how carefully she had read them. Wendy Kozol has a very intimidating presence and I was afraid to approach her.

I agree with the previous grading comment-- her assignments leave a lot open, which is good, until she takes off for things that she didn't ask for, which is bad. She speculates and guesses, and by her comments you can tell she's read your paper once.
