Very interesting and easy class. Lectures often go off topic, and I sometimes fell asleep (8:30 class...), but he was very knowledgeable. Quizzes once a week that are based on easy, short readings. Gives you a list of questions that have possibility of being essay questions for test. Only 2 papers for the semester, each being only 3-4 pages long

super boring class and his teaching method doesn't help. he basically reads straight from the text. cancels class alot, is extremely lazy about getting back tests and papers. tests are all essay format so very hard to study since you never really know what he's going to ask.

He's horrible about getting papers and tests back to you, but he isn't that hard a grader, and he's also really understanding when you turn in work late. He'll give you extensions if you ask, which makes up for getting the assignments back late, at least for me. He's also just an interesting prof.

nice guy, cancelled class a lot though. syllabus was a mess, cancelled some papers. not too much work for a 220 class. not very interesting, but pretty easy

This is a very easy class and an easy way to fulfill the nonwestern requirement. You need to read the book, but that only amounts to 20-30 pages a week. No big deal. The material is basically the same as Global I in high school. He is interesting to listen to, although there are some tangents. He's very clear on what he expects on papers/tests.

He was an awesomely nice guy and the classes where fun, but you MUST take notes from the book or you'll not do so hot, because his class notes are not detailed and he doesn't always stay focused on the topic at hand, but his lectures are still really intelligent.

Does Anybody Know What Time It Is? was a great class. homework was easy- 5 sentences/reactions per chapter. your grade is based on 3 pts per class: 1 if you do homework, 1 if you're there, and 1 if you say something. great field trip to eastman museum/home in rochester

he writes random things on the board- you have to write notes on what he says too. to do well, you MUST take notes from the book, since he lets you use your notes on the pt. 2 of the final. i missed 1/4 of the classes, but read all the assigned readings and still got an A-.

I've always liked history, but the lectures got boring at times. Kind of a hard grader. Do the textbook reading and take good notes as you read as well as in class, this helps on the final. Not too bad overall.

Nice guy, but boring lecturer. It's hard to stay awake in his classes sometimes and I think he's an arbitrary grader. He seemingly grades on how much you write and some of the grades on exams were questionable. His final was also bit hard because his essay questions took all 3 hours to do.

I had him for Non western history and I do not recommend having him. His classes are impossible to stay awake and a waste of time. His tests are short answer questions with essays which he doesn't do too good of a job grading. Take something else lol

He is a very nice man and the class is pretty easy but can be boring because we do the same thing every class which is to listen to him talk about what we have been reading.

Dr. Gohlman was my favorite prof - I took Islamic History and Eastern History form him as well, just because I liked him so much. Very helpful, encouraging - the best at Geneseo by far!

Nice old man; his views are that of a grumpy grandpa and his humor is cold and a bit bitter. Dr. Gohlman is unclear and goes on a lot of tangents in lectures, but he is very clear with what you need to know for the test. Interesting required readings. Moderate grader.

He's a really nice guy and really knows what he's talking about. His lectures can be boring sometimes, but he's not such a tough grader and he tells you exactly what's going to be on the test.
