One of the best professors I've ever had. I wish he didn't have to retire, it's quite sad. I decided to dual major in Phil because of him.

Great, great prof!! I enjoy going to class. Very open to hearing opinions of students, likes to have class discussions. Hilarious man, entertaining. Extremely fair tests- if you read assignments and pay attention, you will do fine. Likes to give pop quizzes sometimes, but you'll know b/c he hints at specific aspects of reading to pay attention to.

Was a great professor! He really made you think and gave examples to help you to understand the material better. Yes, he is anti-religious, but explains it well. I would take another class from him in a heart beat!

great man! he's so nice, and he's very friendly and has a great sense of humor. yes, he's a tad anti religion when he jokes, BUT he does an excellent job at teaching a balanced and open minded class in all aspects! after all, it is philosophy! easy grade if you pay attention, and he makes class entertaining so it's not hard to. loved him!!

It is an extremely hard class but it is one that I love to attend. He doesn't just lecture, mostly discussion. Does have an anti-religion slant but if you can live with it, I would whole-heartedly recommend him.

Interesting class. Good professor but has a obvious hatred for religious people, especially Christians. Often mocks them but claims he is accepting of all beliefs. Some of his ideas contain fallacies but is open to discussing them. You will learn a lot but actually think things through, don't just blindly jump on the atheist trend.

The best proff ever. I am minoring in Phil. because of this man! he is my hero! Not an easy easy class, but he does let us use our notes for the logic tests! There are only 3 tests for our entire grade...he lets us pick our top one to use as a higher percent of the final grade. TAKE THIS PROFF the best ever!!

His tests are were all essay- Many students did poorly, though not by Smith's fault. I thought he was very straight forward and fair. If you came to class and read the assignments, you were rewarded with an A. If you are expecting an easy A, it's not the case.

Bright guy but def. full of himself, always had to mention the fact that he has a PHD. Seemed to go out of his way to spout a lot of his personal opinions & push his own agendas as well. Occasionally was funny but overall tried too hard. Subject material was far more brutal than Smith himself however. He's really a matter of personal preference.

i was a bio major in an advanced philosophy class and smith made it crystal clear. Hes extreamly left wing, and atheist...so i guess of you are religious or conservative you wouldnt see eye to eye. great prof though, I would take him again in a heartbeat...nice and helpful.

If you don't have an extreme hatred of believing in a higher power and don't think that believers are brainwashed drones, then stay away from his course. If you had a somewhat normal childhood and outgrew your "know-it-all" rebel phase stay away. Humanists and know it alls may only apply.

Boring class... very opinionated prof. and doesnt like to hear his students view points if they differ from his. Make sure you do ALL the reading because there are random quizes. Some quizes are on specific paragraphs in the reading so you might as well memorize the 200 pages he assigns per night. I Hated this class!!!

if it weren't so early, it may have been easier? still, i HATED this class with passion. i wanted to shoot both his kneecaps at points. he's arrogant, and subsequently thinks he doesn't need to explain much. even when he tries, its often unsucessful. tries to make class interesting though by being funny. usually doesn't work, but occasionally hits

Has been 11 years since I've been an undergrad. I have since obtained a Masters and teach, part-time at a local college. Dr. Smith will forever stick out in my mind as the finest prof I've ever had. I often think of him as I read the numerous Nietzsche books in my collection. He just may have reached the status of Ubermensch in my opinion!

Smith's a fun, enthusiastic, goofy guy. The movie reviews are a piece of cake... just write well and answer the questions, and you'll be fine. Read the assigned texts, though, if you want to do well on the quizzes too. Oh, and he often ridicules Christian beliefs, sometimes subtly, other times not so subtly, so beware of that. But he's still cool.

Definately tolerable for a three hour class. Dr. Smith presents a well blended dose of insightfulness and humor. While some comments may be offensive to dogmatic right-wing phanaticals, any open minded student will enjoy this class. Expect some work, but far from overwhelming. Make sure you read the assigned readings, he does give quizes.

Yeah, if you're a Christian who takes their religion seriously, you will not like him and he'll end up making your semester a living hell. I like it! About time we have some politically INcorrect profs on this campus. Yeah he is unorganized but the guy is tenured, so what. He is an easy A.
