Prof Wray is great! It's really interesting to learn about history from someone who actually has personal memories from some of the things we talked about. He is very helpful and very kind! Although classes can seem a bit slow at times, I would definitely recommend taking this class!

Good sense of humor, very relaxed lecture style. It seems like he jumps around a lot until you get used to it, but the points actually connect well. He tends to speak quietly and mumble a bit though

Professor Wray has some extremely pertinent and interesting things to say about Japanese history. His method of skipping around to different times and places can be a bit disorienting, but I learned a lot anyway! Go in and talk to him. He's funny as hell if you hear the jokes he frequently slips into his lectures. Sit in the front so you can hear!

His exams were very easy with plenty of choice and he prepares you for the exact questions in his discussion classes. He sets you up to succeed and is willing to give you any help that you ask for. He gave me an extension on my paper, and he helped me immensely with my research. I would definitely take his class again.

Really enjoyed this class and recommend it to anyone who's interested in getting the Japanese perpective on world history. Prof. Wray is very helpful and shows passion for the subject. he does have a sense of humor which helps but he does talk softly and quite fast but over all a great class.

His voice definately takes time to get used to. When you do though, hes not that bad and you can actually catch him telling pretty funny jokes (that nobody realizes). Easy marking, loong classes, very intelligent (Harvard grad!) I think his Japanese is quite good -- he wokred for the Japanes government too!

He is one of the best proffs i've had the pleasure of learning from, very nice, funny, however it is true that his voice takes getting used to. Marks-wise he is very very generous, and understanding enough to give extra time/extensions/considerations when asked (IF YOUR IN HISTORY, GET UR BUTT IN DIS CLASS!).

this guy speaks like a textbook. the textbooks have better expressions than him. he rarely gives any opinions away about the topics we learn. giving your opinion in discussions can be dangerous. ive had better profs. he is not fluent in japanese.

Wray is definitely an academic. Knows his stuff very thoroughy...a true Harvard prof. He's definitely a generous marker and is the most approachable and easygoing professor I know thus far. I'd highly recommend taking a Japanese history course with this guy. A bit dry but you'll love the subject.

Although you may fall asleep during lecture (its 3 hours long, who wouldn't be tired?), Wray's class speaks at an academic level. The material itself is quite interesting and you will find a new appreciation towards Japanese History. Hard work will get you a good mark.

if you are looking for a proff with an animated voice, this is not the guy to pick. HOWEVER, mr. wray is very accomodating to personal emergencies...he is very understanding and kind. his lectures are a little boring but the readings are well picked. he is very knowledgeable in japanese history.

I had this professor a couple of years ago and he still remains one of my favourite. I enjoyed his lectures throughly and recommend him because he knows his stuff. He's also very laid back and easy to talk and listen to. Does he still bring that ratty old umbrella to class?

Wish I knew what he personally thinks about issues. Cynical sometimes, but doesn't give up much of his own opinions, speaks very broadly. Human, above all else. Compassionate, fair, wonderful, sweet old man. Kind. Gave us an extra week for essay.

Yes, he is boring, and even those of us who take interst in the class subject find it difficult to stay awake. But, in fairness, he speaks on an academic level, willingly accepts people's commentary without bias, is pproachable, down-to-earth and fair.

I disagree with all the posters. They don't care for his lectures cause they're stupid. Wray talks on an academic level and respects everyone's perspective. He links history cross-temporally and tries to see connections everywhere. TOP RATE. Fair marker.
