The "skip class? you won't pass" thing is the real deal with Yih-wen. He's truly a nice guy who expects a lot of of his students, but in the end i know he only pushed so hard because he knew everyone in the class could take it and he truly wanted us to get the most out of his class.

If you don't have the time to devote to this class, then you may want to take a different one. But if you're willing to be in class and pay attention, he has wonderful skills to share. He knows his stuff and is willing to give back as much effort as you're willing to put forward. I would take him again.

I liked Yih-Wen as a person. As a teacher, I did not. He ordered too many assignments given the time period allowed, so everyone was completely overwhelmed. He is an extremely difficult grader and I ever knew how I was doing in the class until the end of the semester. I would rather take someone else if NIU had another ceramics professor.

He was an awesome teacher! I loved hearing his stories from Taiwan, they were very interesting. I am a business major and I did well in the class. It was a nice break from the regular routine. Go to every class and you'll be rewarded at the end for your grade! LOVED this class!!

Yih-Wen is one of the most inspiring professors I've had in all of my schooling. He is a hard working professor who expects hard work from other students. Dismiss any negative comments you find here, as those who are rating him negatively are the ones who thought art classes were supposed to be easy. It's not kindergarten!

I took this class in the Spring of 1995 as a senior Finance major. I wanted to expand my hobbies and thought ceramics might interest me. Yih-Wen Kuo made me realize how important it is to express creativity and how it takes a lot of work. I highly recommend Yih-WenKuo and thank him for giving me a hobby that I still practice today. Great teacher

Prof Kuo is an excellent teacher who is very clear about his expectations. He does not expect everyone to be a great potter but he does expect everyone to put forth effort. Sometimes he goes off on tangents but usually it's amusing. All around good guy and I do recommend this class.

I though I was going to hate ceramics. But Kuo made me love it. He rewards hard work with good grades. If you try your best and you devote your time to the studio and his guidence, you'll get a A. Plus I love is quirky personality!

He wants 100% attendence from students, yet has missed 1/4 of the class himself (which he sends a grad student to take attendence to make sure the students still go to class). He grades very hard. Expects everyone to be average (C) and very few people A. Grades on how things look rather than effort.
