I thought this class would be a blowoff, but Honors Film was my hardest class in freshman year. Dr. Mclean has really interesting lectures (she likes to swear, and condones it). There's tons of homework; you have to both watch films and do lots of reading. If you're looking for an easy A, this is probably not the class to go to...

The Honors section of this course was awesome! Dr. McLean is absolutely hilarious and definitely knows her material. Very few grades in the class (two tests, two papers, a group project, attendance). Also lots of reading each week, with two movies to watch before class as well. Other than the workload, it's a super cool class!

The class is way too difficult and time consuming for an intro class. Watching the movies is very time consuming and most of them are quite boring unless you are deeply into filmmaking techniques.

Dr. McLean made film history so much fun. Very knowledgable and has a very sarcastic worldview/sense of humor, which I respond well to. Watching 1-2 movies a week can be a little tough to keep up with depending on your course load (and how skilled you are with finding torrents), but her selections were all top notch/classics and worth watching.

Dr. McLean really knows her stuff, so make sure to do the readings before you head to class since its discussion based. Even though you have to put in a lot of effort into class its one of the best classes I've ever taken.

Dr. McLean is a tough grader and can assign more difficult readings, but that being said she really cares about her students. She's always available to help outside of class. And she really knows what she's talking about. She also has a great sense of humor. Its pretty dry, so fair warning she might tease you!

Just avoid taking her at all cost. She has no respect for students. She bashed an Asian girl on her first assignment and gave her C. Poor girl was humiliated in front of the class. It was one of my regrets.

I took her class because it's supposed to be an intro to films. She assigns too many articles to read every week. She is realy tough on grading and sometimes critique your personal views. If you want an easy A and you are NOT into films then this is not the class that you would want to take.

I took the honors class. This class was a lot of work and I regret taking it in a heavy semester. About 1/3 of all my work was from this class. That being said she grades quickly, knows what she's talking about, and is a very good communicator. If you like film, take her class; if you just need an art credit and can't handle the workload, DO NOT.

Professor McLean is an excellent lecturer. She's very helpful and understanding as well. The only negative thing to say about this course is the group project!

If you absolutely love filmmaking, by all means take this class, but if you have a hard major and are just looking for an easy fine arts class to take, avoid this one, it is way to difficult for a core class. For people not interested in filmmaking techniques, you will essentially be learning a bunch of boring material you will have no use for.

Always there for clarification and help. Marathon class but a gifted lecturer. Watch the movies, do the readings, and take notes. It's a lot of material but she has review sheets and exams aren't that bad if you study what you would for a usual college class. I took it as a fine arts credit, slept an hour each class and still pulled off an A-.

Horrible and boring professor. The grade is entirely made up of exam grades and even with a curve the exam is still hard. Watched every film, read the entire textbook, and never missed a lecture and could still never make an A on an exam.

Took a Film class with her. If you like film you will love McLean's class. She is very knowledgable and almost *too* enthusiastic about it. She has a great dry sense of humor, unapologetically swears like a sailor, and presents the film world in a fun, candid way. Class is an easy A, especially if you watch the movies and take notes.
