You might get frustrated with his lectures,but once you put aside of what you know about art and try to start new it will come to you. His lectures are amazing and it motivated me to draw.remeber:"Everything is a drawing."He's the best professor in RISD I think!He opened my eyes into art.eventhough I didn't get an A,I learned how to SEE differently

Truly one of the most thrilling times I have ever had. Al knows how to draw out the true way a person can create. Those who leave the poor feed back are off their meds and need to be more open minded to what art can be. All he asks is that you try new things while you're in his class. A diamond in the rough that is RISD Foundation Studies.

Alas, the instructions above tell me to "keep comments clean." Let's see: I hated this man. Still do. Didn't teach me a damned thing, only to "play it safe" by making what I thought he wanted to see, not what I really did. I'm an illustrator, an art he had no kind words for. All being in his class did for me was shove me *deep* into my shell.

Inspiring. Truly. This class takes a lot of courage and a lot of exploration. If you think it's a crock of****, you'll never do well. DeCredico doesn't even grade you until the final because he doesn't want you bogged down with the idea of grades.

Contradicts himself constantly, not anywhere near as open-minded as he claims himself to be. He has his own taste in art and expects you to follow it despite the fact he told you that you could do anything. But if you are going into painting I think his class is very helpful, but why come to RISD for painting?

He's pretty crazy; you either like him or hate him depending on your expectation in Foundation "Drawing". He expects you to be confused at first in his class so don't panic or jump to judgment. He's into abstract stuff, but he's really just trying to teach students how to recieve art as he does and appreciate the elements that many people neglect.

The man is a genius. I wish I could take his class again. He has a highly untraditional approach to teaching and challenges us to go beyond the bounds of representational art to push the limits of what we can actually make. Students who don't like him generally adhere to the norm that other artists have set instead of pushing their comfort zone.

Anyone can draw a figure, a foot, a hand...etc. what decredico teaches in class goes further than what any fine arts teacher can teach. art is not about perfection.he allows us to discover within ourselves what art is really about, that if we allow our freedom and aggresivness to let loose, art will form by itself. great teacher.

If you take Al's class, you miss out on alot of skills you might aquire from a teacher like Tom Mills. However, his class opens people to new ideas of drawing. What there is to get from his class is that there is nothing to get. Drawing is an inate need for any artist--an exploration rather than an arrival. Anything done in the spirit of "play" can be drawing. I recommend his class for people already skilled in representational drawing--those who need to find out what it's like to make "
