Boring class (the other section is much worse), with a prof who gets agitated about loads of grammar in every class. Very limited literary discussion, and zero class participation. Not recommended overall!

Alain-Michel is a good prof. His lectures are really chill - he just talks the whole time, but he's super animated and enthusiastic, so usually you don't get too bored. He doesn't really expect any participation or group work. Gives a ton of feedback on tests/assignments (literally half a page of feedback to justify your grade) which is great.

So i've been to his classes and all he does is talk for years... I love french but he really makes it boring... so many kids dropped this class after taking 122 and 123 which were the prereqs and they were so much simpler than this class omg

Don't take classes with this prof. Very controlling, boring, he does not encourage class participation or group activities. He spends his time bossing students around with grammar exceptions, while he is completely dull at discussing texts in depth.

12 movies in the term??? No deep analysis, theoretical background, or comparative approach, only shallow, pointless comments along (names of actors, historical contexts, and so forth). I expected much more for an upper-level course. And he's a bit obsessive with grammar. Nice guy for sure, but scholarly output I think not.

Great class. Super energetic prof. Probably evident given it's a 3xx level class, but you should have a pretty good grasp of French coming into the class. Paper 30%, Midterm 30% Final 40%. Read four books. Reasonable grader, doesn't give out any really high grades or really low though.

You can tell that Alain is seriously passionate about French literature. He is animated when he talks and uses an infinite amount of gestures. His marking is fair. He speaks with rapid speed and complete french so I recommend this only if you're good with listening. He doesn't really put notes up so if you want notes from his lectures, listen up.

He was my very first French professor in first year, and also taught literature for me in second year. He is an extremely enthusiastic and passionate teacher with a clear desire for his students to understand and progress. J'ai beaucoup appris de lui!

I found it difficult to do extremely well in his class. In the end, I ended up with an A-, and I usually do really well in french classes. Other than that, he's an interesting guy...the class is interesting because of him. I like the movies...I have a newfound liking for french cinema now!

Mr. Rocheleau was fantastic! He goes out of his way to be fair on exams and to explain everything to his students. He kept office hours religiously and encouraged students to come ask him questions.

Eep. Initially scared stiff by his sudden, dramatic gestures. Then, realised he's just animated like that. Not only amusing, it REALLY helped hammer crucial lessons into my mind. Nice person. Timid people (like I was) may be afraid to approach him for fear of triggering an explosion. Fear not! He wants to make sure you understand. Delightful prof.

Best prof by far! He's very entertaining and very informative at the same time. He gives extra supplementary sheets (very helpful!) that other profs of the same course won't provide. He has interesting ways of making stuff stick in ur head (repeating + shouting it 25x, banging on a desk...)
