Alan was a great teacher. He would thoroughly explain the concept every class in his notepad on the projector. If anyone needed help he'd stop the class and explain til it was crystal clear. As someone who was in a degree program, I was very happy with his classes. The people who didn't like him should probably rethink being in programming.

Regarding what the last person wrote, it's ok to not "understand the coding." That's why people pay tuition and buy books, to learn something they didn't know before (why else would you be in the course?). Alen Lee doesn't explain anything. He's lazy, incompetent, and they fired him too! Him teaching Java would be a disgrace to computer science.

i don't know why people would bash him for the example he uses in class. if you don't understand the coding, you shouldn't be in the CISY. He is crystal clear on the examples, and you can always email him for questions. he is the real programmer in Kwantlen. yeah he like M$, and i do hope that he could teach java too..

Not only this teacher, but all of my courses this semester have been degrading. I have forked over hundreds of dollars for 4 courses, all of which, have been a complete waste of time. I have learned nothing from this class except mastery of typing skills. The teacher explains 0 theory... Just types up his own projects as if he is teaching himself..

For the midterm, you will have 30 MC questions (some of them from the textbook) and and two programs that you will have to write in Visual Studio. Make sure to memorize the code he teaches in class (especially the assignments) and that you can do them really quickly. If it's possible take your course with any other teacher.

If you have a passion in programming, Alan is THE perfect professor. Even if you don't, go to his class & put in a bit of effort and you'll get a good grade. While I don't agree with everything he says and he is a bit biased towards MS technology, he is VERY knowledgeable, loves his students. Once you know him more, you would't want another prof.

I'm onto my third class with this teacher and I'm glad of it. He spends each class going through acutal examples of coding so we can apply it immediately. Alan takes into account how good you are at programming, and if you acutally try in class. As long as you show up to every class and put in a bit of effort, you'll do fine in his class.

He is the worst teacher ever who is the most unprofessional jerk ever. He goes super fast, on purpose, and wont slow down, he doesnt answer any questions, he doesnt teach at all, he just wants to finish the lecure as quickly as possible so he can catch his plane. He makes fun of students in front of the whole class, ALERT! AVOID THIS TEACHER!!!!!!!

Prepare yourself for LOTS of self-learning if you don't have a strong background in the subject. He spends majority of the time typing while everyone else copies. He has a hard time explaining the concepts and teaches "by example" from the book. He should also update himself on his HTML/CSS to reflect the new standard that's been in place for 5+yrs

Good teacher, if you want to learn anything solid, take with him. His speaking might not make you confortable, but his really cares about what students can learn and do in the real business.
