Dr. Hyslop is honestly one of the best professors to have for Gen Chem because she doesn't read off slides and works through problems with the class and really tries to explain everything clearly. That being said you still need to pay attention to everything to do well.

Dr. Hyslop was honestly one of the best teachers I've had. She really made me enjoy gen chem 1 with her enthusiasm, and she taught everything really well. Many people claimed she went too fast and that they didn't learn anything, but it seemed to be the opposite for me. Her hours are flexible, and I really wish I could take her again!!

One of the worst professor's at St. John' University. Plus she is the head of the Chemistry department which you would think she would know how to teach and be respected but she is not. I would never choose her as a professor and I would never take her class again.

Never took her for gen chem, but she is the chair of the department and let me just say, she is soooo rude. Went to her once asking to be put in a class and asking for help, and she wouldnt even listen to me, rather she was just sarcastic and snarky. avoid her. im sure shes terrible at teaching also

she's not terrible but she's not the best either. my class was always behind the other classes. homework assignments were annoying but doable, the exams were at night which is good cause more time to study, bad cause its at night lol.

She teaches too fast and is quite often making a lot of mistakes. I do not recommend taking her unless you already have a grasp on chemistry. IF YOU WANT TO PASS SHOW UP TO CLASS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dr. Hyslop is one of the most intelligent professors I've ever taken. She is brilliant and enamored of chemistry, so she explains things very well. She is a difficult grader and won't help you out unless you seek it. Would highly recommend.

She was an okay professor. For some, it was a difficult class and definitely more challenging than Gen Chem I. However, since I took AP Chem the class was essentially review for me. Other than that, nothing too special. She is willing to help if you seek her out.

She lectures and the material as if demonstrating to other professors with PhDs instead of to students, she doesn't feel very sincere about anything or seem to care about the wellbeing of her students. Not a good teacher, if you want to learn the material, best to search it online or from another teacher

I took her for Gen Chem II, I went from a straight A student in Gen Chem I to getting low C's and low B's on my tests. Most of the class is seemingly failing except for the few students that get 100s. She doesn't really help you get ready for tests and she doesn't really teach well at all.

Every statement she makes sounds like a question which leads to major confusion during class. If you make a mistake be prepared to be ripped apart. She is defiantly on the eccentric side but I personally was not a fan of her. Don't miss class because you'll get have a quiz every day. This is also true for her in her recitation class.

Prof. Hyslop lectures well and does an excellent job of explaining most topics, what students don't understand in her lectures can be corrected for in recitation. She does not go out of her way to help students, but she is there if you need her for office hours. She is very passionate about chem in an infectious way. Quizzes every class though.

She's not that bad of a teacher and her tests aren't too hard if you studied correctly for them. I think she could be better at explaining things, but she does have a huge class and it's hard for her to cater to everyone's experience style. If you ask for help outside of class however, she provides it. Gives lots of quizzes (most don't count).

I love Dr. Hyslop. She's always willing to help you, and her teaching style is amazing. Daily quizzes, but it's worth motivating you to study in order to not being left behind. Her tests are quite difficult, but she drops the lowest one. I admire her for everything. I wish to take her class again in the future. Best chemistry professor at St. John's

She's always confused. Always asks students for clarification on the material. Isn't she the teacher, let alone wrote the book herself?

It's a difficult class but she is extremely helpful. Very clear in lecture and won't absolutely bore you to death if you're actually interested in the class. She almost daily gives quizzes on material from the book, a lot of times having to do with the day's lecture so make sure you read before class. Tests are a bit difficult so you must study.
