His 1st time teaching chem 25. It was easy for me (I come from a VERY strong math background) & I always read chapters 2x before lecture. Lectures were him doing example problems; did them myself too bc u only learn math by doing BIG curve. Cons: posts slides after lecture, night class, took mcq from test bank w/o verifying answers

Tough class, but he's so willingly to help you out- a very sweet guy. The grade you get in the class really reflects how much effort you put into the class. Tests can be difficult (7 MC and 3 Free Responses) but he's very generous with partial credit. DO WORKSHOP QUESTIONS. There's always at least one of them on the exam.

Franz is passionate and an extremely knowledgeable professor. His exams are short and very challenging. Genuine hard work is enough to pass. 1 multiple choice problem 5% on a test. Two multiple choice answers is already a letter grade difference A-B. Take Franz and you will LEARN OCHEM. His students do very well on the DATMCAT. He curves.

Also took this course in the summer. Intense and fast paced. Franze is a good lecturer though. There was definitely some sort of curve at the end, got consistent 65-70 and a C on the final, still got a C+ in the end. Depends on your classmates of course though.

I took Dr. Franz for O Chem I during summer and honestly I feel once people put this fantasized trepidation of O Chem aside, they would find that the subject itself is not too bad. Now, the intensity of the course demands a lot in a short period of time but in Dr. Franz, I couldn't ask for a better guide. Study hard, get those labs out the way!

Dr. Franz has very difficult tests, however, this man is AMAZING. He is so helpful, funny, and so humble. If you take his class, I highly advise you go to his office hours and talk to him. He will do anything he can to help you. I LOVE DR. FRANZ. May God bless him.

Great Ochem Professor. I don't think he was unfair at all. Yea, he had difficult tests, but this isn't UC Riverside. The class is very doable as long as you spend time studying

I'm taking Ochem this summer. He's a great lecturer- easy to follow & is good at explaining mechanisms/concepts. I highly suggest attending his lecture because I've been to all of them, & am currently above average w/minimal study time (no, I'm not a prodigy). Yeah, he goes fast, but it's expected for summer. He curves now too!

During summer Franz had a total 3 office hrs during the week. He doesnt manage the office hrs very well so people hog up his time and you wait, and wait till its your turn to go in and ask. He is a clear lecturer but has very difficult tests. Honestly I didnt think he was really fair but neither is OCHEM at UOP. But out of everybody he's the best?

Excellent Ochem Professor. Very clear in lecture and tests are a fair representation of what you should know. Summer goes a bit fast so he expects you to study material on your own, even if he hasn't gone over it in lecture.

If you work hard, once you are finished with his class, you will KNOW your Ochem. Don't take him over the summer (he goes really fast)--take him during the school year. Read the book and go to all the lectures/workshops. Even if he doesn't curve, he's very fair to begin with. He prepares you so well, any other Ochem class will seem easy. Awesome!

Franz was an alright teacher. He knew some interesting facts to make lectures less dull. However, the exams were very hard, despite doing all of the book problems, homework sets, and sample exams. Exams & the final all consist of 7 MC & 3 free response. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, he didn't curve at all, including no curve in lab.

If you plan on going to graduate school, don't take this class, especially during the summer. he did not curve :( He is nice though, but not when it comes to grades, so grades or a friend? you decide

I took it during the summer and I advise you not to take it during the summer!!! I got a 61% in the class and he gave me a D! No curve. Over 60% of the students got D!!!! So sad! :( Only 4 exams, not like the reg semester best of 4 out of 5. Finals is HARD! 7 MC, 3 essay 60-90 pts each.

Clear lecturer, but straight from the book, thus not very helpful. Tests are tough, but do-able if you did all the book practice problems. only once did i feel a test question was unfair. stingy partial credit. If you understand the material, you will do fine. READ the book and DO the problems. Rarely reuses old test questions except on mc/finals.

This class is tough. Of all the ochem teachers, he is the most clear (no accent) and his lectures are organized. I was disappointed because I read and heard that he repeats a lot of questions from workshop and old tests but he didn't do that much for our class. Make sure to remember stuff from old chapters (or else the rest is hard to get through).

Franz is an amazing ochem professor. His tests are very very fair. I've never come across a question where it wasn't something I haven't seen before. He challenges students and wants to seem them do well. He's always willing to explain things again. Franz is so cool. He loves using the phrase "moving day on campus" a lot.

A really good guy. Very approachable. GO to his office hours. He answers your questions clearly and you will learn some of his tendencies when it comes to test questions. He is generous when it comes to partial credit. Side note- he is just a cool guy to talk to, he has a wide range of interests.

Very good professor who is willing to help students no matter what the question inside and outside the classroom. He's a good person to talk to for help or advice and cares for students. His exams aren't hard it's just a problem can be worth alot (e.g. 5 pt for every mult. choice) but he's great with partial credit.
