I took the summer class for HIST 050 and it was so easy it was a joke. there was no final, just a 1000 word long essay and an easy family tree project. i finished all of my work early and had the rest of the week off most of the time

I really wish I had not taken this class because it is so hard for a lower division. He grades very hard and it kinda made me hate east asian civ. history. He gives to much work and reading and I know a lot of people that are not getting good grades. Definitely not worth it.

Do not take this class for a GE!!! For this class being a lower division GE it is extremley difficult. There are so much readings and the prof. expects you to take notes on every little thing. Also he is a hard grader. He expects too much out of a lower division course. It would be understandable if it was upper division. If not a req. dont take it

I'm just taking this class as a GE but I really wish I had taken something else. There is so much work and I really don't recommend this class unless you have to take it. He is a great professor but he gives out so much work and he grades really hard.

Funny teacher who is down to earth. Don't really need a textbook for class. Just take lecture notes and your good for the test because its lecture based. Boring subject but he tries to make it interesting. Class is pretty easy. I had a solid A going into the final but the final screwed me over. He graded really hard on the final.

He's funny. His lectures are interesting. There are lots of readings. He is a bit moody sometimes (but I am as well lol..) He is enthusiastic. To me, he is actually medium (not easy, not hard). I like him as my teacher. He tries to engage us as a class and cares if we're interested in listening to him or not.

Rohlf was alright. In some ways, he can be easy but in some eays, he can also be extremely difficult. This class was pretty rigorous & student-centered so there's a lot of reading. Even though this class counts as a GE, I would only recommend it to people who would need this class like History & Asian Studies majors.

Rohlf is AMAZING! Fun, engaging, intelligent. You need to read A LOT in his class and participate tons. He's a bit of a stickler but is manageable if you try. I've been in 2 of his classes and received B+ in both. Can be moody but overall I learned a lot.

Taking Modernization of Japan with Rohlf was quite interesting...he's a great lecturer and makes the subject of his lecture very engaging, yet his way of grading can be a little harsh when it comes to essay/writing assignments. Rohlf was extremely helpful outside of class for essay help.

I think Rohlf is a person you either love or hate. Learn to love Asis if you want to love him. He's a good lecturer but sometimes I legitimately wonder if he realizes what he's saying, because he just doesn't seem to be all there. I did well on the research paper even though it was rushed, so I don't think he's too hard a grader.

Nice and knowledgeable. He can be kind of pompous at times. His is a very nitpicky grader, ESPECIALLY for participation. If you don't participate, he doesn't like you. But otherwise he's pretty good.

Rohlf is smart but I think he feels he's on a much higher level than his students (and his co-workers). He talks down a lot, but you get used to it. Also, the man thinks he's Chinese, which is funny. He's helpful if you seek him out, but is very nitpicky with grading.
