Comment:

The class was an elective that felt like a capstone course. It was a lecture, but he made it a seminar so he could do as little teaching as possible. We had 50-70 pages of single-spaced dense reading to do per class, on top of ridiculous busy work and six papers that he graded very harshly. The most work and the lowest grades I've ever received.

yes.. he is the department chair i think that title should be given to another person in this department. grades papers tough. when you ask why you received a low grade he has no clear explanation.

He's a fair teacher. I got a C and I proably gave a C effort in the class. He is very clear about what he teaches and what he wants from his students. Easy to approach and he is someone you probably want to get to know (he's the department chair) The one complaint I have is he grades both papers very tough. Don't buy the book.

If all of the photoj classes were like Mendelson's doc photo class the photoj program would be great (as opposed to being an average program with below average students). He is tough so you have to be talented and motivated to succeed. A lot better than Trayes and way more structured.

I took a class with Dr Mendelson and also was his assistant one semester. Good guy with a real passion for the subject matter and education in general. He is very knowledgeable about a wide range of topics. I thought his undergrad course was really exceptional, grad course had its dull moments.
