Prof Stambuk is very passionate about his work, kind-hearted, understanding and helpful. Definitely one of my favorite professors. However we were graded on a few things which were heavily critiqued. He is an extremely hard grader and will cover your papers in ink with corrections. I became a better writer though

Do not take this professor. He assigned texts and then assigns the paper when we weren't even done with the book yet. He gets savage when people do not participate. He is a very tough grader and he does not stay on track with the syllabus at all. Last week of class we were technically on week 8 out of 15 in the syllabus. His timing is very bad.

Very passionate prof who knows how to make class fun. Yeah, he drills you about all the minor mistakes in your essays, but it's all in your best interest. He actually wants you to improve, not just stagnate. On the last day he made a speech about how much fun he had teaching us which was really sweet. Has a great connection with his students.

Do not take this professor. He offers no room for improvement in his class and doesn't just grade your papers but scrutinizes every single word you choose to use until he forces you to write exactly what he wants to hear. This class made me dread writing and question my competence- I know most reviews are positive on here but please beware.

Best English instructor I've ever had. He's incredibly passionate about the reading material. Participation can boost your grade up a letter. Only two papers and a final exam. You don't have to read outside of class. He goes out of his way to make sure you understand the material. He's a genuinely awesome guy, I definitely want to take him again.

Stambuk is the man. His final is a bit ridiculous but at least he tells you exactly what's going to be on it. Has a real passion for literature and shows it in every class. I hate literature but made me really enjoy the class. Definitely take him for your lit credit.

Professor Stambuk is one of the most passionate professors at Hofstra University. He is a wonderful man who genuinely cares if his students harbor an interest in literature. You should take him because he is one of the few professors left that cares. He's the man.

Really laid-back, nice guy, and good to talk to. Approachable and seems genuinely devoted to being a professor. Graded on 2 papers (midterm + final), final exam, and participation. Strict paper grader, but gives detailed feedback. told exactly what the questions on the final before we took it, so it was easy to study for. overall, recommended.

Awesome professor. He's a good guy with a real interest in his curriculum/students. He explains the novels in such depth that it's not even necessary to read them yourself, and his attendance policy is extremely flexible. Overall: great professor, easy class.

Really really nice guy, just not completely on top of his game. He cares a little too much about people's opinions, to the point where discussion of one piece can take up to 3 weeks when it was supposed to be one class. It was an easy and fun class with some nice discussion, boring at times but overall a good class with a really great guy.

How is this man still employed? He is utterly useless to the department and to his students. Moronic potheads get (not earn) Bs while hardworking students have to compete for the spotlight. I will have little sympathy for this failure when he is sloughed off and the English department can use his office for someone worth the meager salary.

Really nice and helpful. Assigned readings for class that are incredibly easy. He makes it easier by going through everything in depth. Quizzes are straight from class discussions and notes. 2-3 papers depending on time constraints. Choices for each one. Fairly easy. Go to class, pay attention and take some notes and youll be fine.

He seems like a nice enough guy but unless you really know NOTHING about english it is pretty pointless to take his class. He spends far too long on each text and then expects you to rehash his points in your papers. If you try to be original, he forces you to change it to what he wants. Not the worst professor, but not a good one either
