I took this class to fulfill my History gen ed as a senior and it was ridiculously hard for a gen ed. The only significant grades in the class are the three exams and they cover monumental amounts of information which you will forget immediately after. If you are interested in this then she is great and is very knowledgeable but be prepared.

If you require Power Points, you won't get it with Prof. Broadbridge. She moves quickly with her lectures but is always willing to go back and clarify. She's incredibly kind and is very attentive in office hours. She will let you do rewrites- even if you do well. She's clear with what she wants. This is one of the best classes I've taken at UMass.

This class moves very fast, especially because the professor believes that most people are marginally interested in the class. When I took this class, exams were a WHOPPING 85% of the entire grade. THERE IS NO CURVE. Be wary of TA grading too. It doesn't hurt to double check your grades with her.

Amazing class, very interesting material covered in a clear manner. Professor Broadbridge makes an effort to ensure that everyone is on the same page, usually with "is this topic perfectly clear to everyone?" Beware, don't underestimate the value of the exams, as they are really the only significant grades, and graded in a tough manner.

Her readings are all free from the library website, but she expects you to read them and be able to answer questions about them in class. But you literally only have to speak once during the semester and she'll give you credit for participation. The tests can be hard and it is a lot of memorizing but if you go to class you'll be fine.

I was apprehensive about taking this class, as I wasn't too enthused about the subject matter, but this professor is an excellent lecturer and inspires interest in the topic. If you are willing to do the readings and go to class, it's not too difficult, but you do have to work a bit for a good grade.

Expert on her subject and a great teacher. Over 2 years after her class I still remember a lot of it. I heartily recommend her classes with the caveat that shes a tough grader. I normally come out of upper level history classes somewhere between an A- and a B. I did not get those in her classes.

One of the best history teachers at UMass hands down. She has a great sense of humor and I (a terrible morning person) often found myself woken up and excited for her class. The tests are difficult (only a midterm and a final) and you will need to study. The readings are frequent but fairly short. An average workload. Great class, great professor.

I took this class to fulfill my history requirements, and found it difficult to understand some of the material. It was nothing I was interested in or had studied before, so the tests were difficult as well. She seems like a nice enough lady, but you can tell she finds the lower-level history boring also.

Excellent prof but a very tough grader. The workload was what I would expect for a four credit or honors course. However, I learned a ton, and she was very engaging. Plus, anyone who can successfully pull off a lecture while managing their two-year old because they couldn't get a sitter that day is impressive in my book.

This class is fascinating and Broadbridge is a great lecturer. She is, however, the hardest grader I have ever encountered. She flat-out told me she doesn't give As in her upper-levels. You will work incredibly hard.

Great professor. Class structure is clear and work is manageable. No overwhelming research assignments. If you do the readings, you'll do well. Readings are short and have questions to go along with them. Overall, pretty easy in comparison to other history classes but you still learn a lot. DEFINITELY would recommend.

She explains everything fully and has no problem going over things either in class or at office hours. It's test-based and there are occasionally short responses in class. Keep on top of the reading and study really hard for the exams.

Kind of appalled that this is classified as a gen ed. It takes a lot of effort. Attendance is mandatory, and exams are very detailed. She's very approachable though, and with the effort its possible to get an A.

Middle Eastern history is not an easy subject, but Broadbridge does a great job explaining the subject. There is a lot of material that is covered for a 130 class, but if you take notes and do the readings you'l be alright. If history aint your thing, avoid. If you like history and the Middle East, I cant think of a better introductory class.

This class is awful. Long readings online, mandatory participation in class, tests are really hard, and you have to attend an outside event. During class you have to take notes from her lecturing - she speaks so fast and thinks that everyone loves Islamic history..worst HS gen-ed. Don't do it to yourself DEF NOT WORTH IT

Who ever says take this class is out of their mind. This is class was dreadful. If you have no prior knowledge on Islamic studies or are uninterested in this topic, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Very confusing woman, fast passed, oral notes. EW.

She does take attendance but you get two free misses. I would not recommend missing though as she gives notes all class and you'll miss a lot. The tests are somewhat difficult, but if you have good notes then you'll be fine. Great professor overall and very helpful. She gives weekly readings that can be tedious, but you can often skip those.

Attendance is not mandatory but I recommend that you don't miss a class because she gives lots of info in one class. But class is very interesting. She is helpful and very clear. Lets you know when something should be written. Tells you exactly what she wants on the exam. 1 thing is that notes are in black board and test are not multiple choice

Broadbridge is one of the best teachers I've ever had. Homework is not huge, just do the reading. Prepare to have intense classes with tons of notes. 95% of test studying will be off class notes. I'd go to class totally lost on the subject, after an hour I felt like I had mastered it. Extraordinary communicator. She's no ****. Dont piss her off
