the most boring class I have taken in my years at Ualbany. You actually have to watch the movies in class because that's all that the tests are on. They focus on the SMALLEST of details. But the movies are either silent, or black and white, or just plain boring. don't take this class at all.

I took Intro to Independent Cinema with her and it was honestly my favorite college class I ever took. I only wish I could have taken more classes with her. It was a long class in the evening, so sometimes I got a bit sleepy but besides that I had no complaints at all. It was informative about a subject I really liked and a very easy A.

good teacher. classes are long. first half you take notes, second you watch old movies. very easy to fall asleep. I never read the book and did well on the tests. so just take notes and study them. definitely recommend this class because it's once a week and an easy A once you put a little effort.

Extremely long. Relies way too much on the readings. Doesn't explain lot. It's not that difficult to do well but its not that simple either. if you like early cinema and reading a lot it might be okay for you but not a good choice for someone who doesn't like black and white silent films and reading extensively. Only get the book if you'll read it

Its an easy class, its just long and REALLY BORING. Grades are based completely on 4 tests which are on the movies she plays in class & background of filmmakers. She assigns long, boring readings, but most of which she summarizes in class. If you manage to stay awake and you take notes, you'll get an A. If not watch the movies and read on your own.

She kinda gives off the appearance of being some kindly grandmother type, but once you get to know her, you'll see she's very strict and fairly arrogant. Knows her stuff for sure, but she's just not the nicest person, and she has no problem belittling students in front of the entire class. She's better to take for lecture hall classes.

Prof. Kupferberg's lectures are LONG. And not because of the films but she does talk an unusual amount about off topic people that I really don't need to know and won't remember. But it's sill an easy A and she's a sweetheart.

I loved this class! Audrey Kupferbeg is a great professor and she really knows her stuff. She was easy to pay attention to since the material was interesting. A few of the films were bizarre. Tests (3?) are easy if you take good notes and pay attention not only to her, but to the films. Read textbook once in a while. No papers, no assignments!

She was pretty okay. You watch movies for like most of the class period and most of the test are based on the movies. I wasn't the best student but I found this class pretty easy.

Some notes but basically all movies for 3 hours. The class isn't hard. You copy notes, you study them, you read a few pages from the textbook, and you watch the movies. It isn't hard, but it's long and boring. If you can manage to stay awake during the movies, then you'll do fine. it isn't all that bad. you get used to the length.

Had her for intro to cinema. Class was super easy, 4 tests based on lecture notes, readings (which can be eye-glazing but bearable), and the movies we watched. She was a kind, old woman with a great knowledge of her subject content. Film selection was great, even showed hitchcock's psycho. Take her for an easy A and if movies interest you

Silent Film. I enjoyed the class, but man, some of those films could be torture to sit through. She seemed somewhat disorganized and I always got the impression that she winged most of her lectures. Take advantage of office hours.

Wasn't crazy about her. Tests and papers weren't bad but I didn't really like her attitude. She seemed to have a bit of a temper and talking to her was always like walking on eggshells. She also regularly kept students passed the end of class which late at night I found to be very inconsiderate.

Personally, I thought she was fantastic. Very wide knowledge of the subject matter. She is a film historian, and she really knows what she is talking about. The films shown were very good as well. Psycho and The Seventh Seal were two highlights. My only complaint is that she rambles on A LOT which can be grating at times. Definitely worth it.

She's okay and the tests are easy. But she just comes across as very...cold. She has no interest in what anyone else thinks and she has no sense of humor either.

Pretty easy class 4 tests with 33 multiple choice questions. Some questions were tricky because they were from the book, whose readings were super boring. Usually I would just skim the readings, go to class, and wikipedia the films before the test. Overall not a bad class and some of the films were pretty good.

Took her silent film class. 2 Papers, 2 tests. Tests are just like the intro course (33ish Multiple Choice) Papers are not that bad. The two papers were the only two I'd written in over two years and still got an A in the class. She is great, a fun class if you are into film. (This does not mean I like going to see movies)
