Great Professor! Great person. Helped me to appreciate clear and concise writing. Taught me how to get to the point. (A skill greatly lacking in todays students.)

Not too much homework, but the class consists mainly of class discussion of the current novel. Never did the reading, but I'd always go to her to discuss how to write the essay and she'd sit down and walk me through it, usu. resulting in a B (though not reading will catch up with you on the final).

This woman is not exactly what I would call a "teacher". Sure she stands in front of the class and loudly proclaims her ideas and opinions, but there is no room in her class for original thought or any opinion that diviates from her own. Her paper comments are more rude than constructive and sometimes she's just downright mean. She's smart though

She was an extremely hard grader, but my writing improved because of her. If you did well in her class, she loved you but if not, good luck. my main complaint about her is that i found her to be very closed minded on social issues. she often inappropriately brought up certain issues in class and spewed her views while not letting anyone else get a word in edgewise. i liked her until that point.

it's possibly that estrin's paper comments will make you want to die. i always appreciate constructive criticism, but she is flat out discouraging. she took the joy out of studying literature for me. while she has made some people better writers, she's not the only professor capable of that.

Overall, this is a wonderful course. Sometimes she can be a little scattered and unclear, but an excellent teacher and extremely intelligent woman. If you take the time to talk to her about your papers and the class material, then you will come away with a lot. your writing will improve greatly.

She is a brilliant lady, but I don't think she belongs in a classroom. She is too set in her ways and too closed-minded to other people's ideas. Don't take her class unless you are required. You won't enjoy it.

If you're not a gifted writer before her class, you're gonna have a hard time. She's a very tough grader and her comments on your paper are a bit out of line sometimes. She's not a bad person, she just expects everyone to be great writers and love English. She's for English majors only.

One of the hardest teachers i have ever had. while she knows more about William Shakespeare than SHakespeare's mother, she is extremely critical, and not in a good way.

Very smart, indeed. She is, however, archaic, critical, irrefutably dull, and self-centered. Such personality traits leave little opportunity to be a successful teacher. Lucky I shared a love for literature, I'd have sooner gouged out my eyes in class.

Also a very boring person. Criticism is good, but Estrin takes it to a whole new level, and can be quite condescending. If your opinion isn't her opinion than its not right. Isn't interpretation about what YOU think not what she thinks?

Her comments on papers is very harsh rather than helpful. All she talks about in class is her college sex life and how that has impacted her life. Her class has made me reconsider if I want to be an English Major anymore. Poor, poor professor.

Her paper criticisms are negative rather than constructive. Can be very condescending rather than an inspiration for learning. She is intelligent - if she would just get off her high horse and stop talking about Brown U, she might be a better prof.
