This class was extremely disappointing. We were told to buy three books when we only used one (two of which were authored by Rogoff). You have to write short essays (chapter critiques) every week, which are graded confusingly with unhelpful feedback. Go see the TAs for help on essays, otherwise its impossible to know what they want.

An essay due every week, with 2 of those being longer reports. But more importantly, I ADORE Prof Rogoff. I learned many new ideas and concepts through the readings & her lectures. It is the first class I've taken that I genuinely cared more about the material than the grade. Feedback is given on each of your essays to consider for the next. 10/10!

So Rogoff isn't amazing but the class is fairly easy-just an essay a week. The only thing i didn't understand was the grading criteria for the essays which was a bit confusing. Classes felt a bit pointless though. No final exam!

If you have any amount of intelligence or proficiency in writing, do NOT take this class. Structured like a mediocre middle school cultural club, you will turn in a 2 page paper every week and be graded like you are in 7th grade, diminished and disrespected for being a better writer than her.

She's a good professor. Passionate about her research. Open to hearing different opinions. Encourages others to challenge her work. No test, not even a final. 2-page essays every week on interesting topics. Easy grader.

There's quite a bit of reading every week and they are essential for the essays. Although, you can get away with just scanning the main ideas. Go to office hours and ask for help if you need it. Rogoff is a really helpful and caring professor and just wants her students to succeed. Great class overall. I didn't expect it to be so insightful.

there's lots of reading so just make sure to keep up. Essays are assigned every week although they are only 1-2 pages and aren't that bad as long as you figure out how she wants you to structure them. overall the class isn't to hard.

Professor Rogoff is one of the most inspirational and passionate teachers that I have ever had. I am so grateful to have taken her class. She challenges her students way of thinking, specially how one tends to think ethnocentrically and judge other cultures based on one's own cultural experience or upbringing. Overall, Rogoff is an amazing teacher

Rogoff's lecture style was dull and slow. Obsessed with the idea of avoiding ethnocentrism but believed her way of thinking was the only right way. Texts she assigned were written by her. Go against her ideas in papers and you fail but agree with them and you'll pass. No tests only papers that were about extending ideas of your own based on book

Rogoff is a good professor if you like to be told what to think. Although she encourages students to speak their opinion, she has a way of disregarding it if it doesn't agree with her opinion. The class itself has interesting content. It's easy to get a good grade if you keep up with the essays. Class lectures and pretty dull.

AVOID THIS CLASS! She only cares about her own opinions and uses class to rant about her research without a care for anyone's opposing thoughts. 1-2 Essays due every single week, boring lectures. The only plus is no exams.

Agree with her, get an A. Disagree, and even if you put in a crapton of work the highest you'll get is the B range. She believes her way is right (which is understandable), but doesn't spark interest/creativity in the students for new ideas. I came in interested, I left with huge, huge disappointment. Save your psych seminar for something else.

i quickly lost that interest as the weeks went on. classes were redundant, and often droned on. papers were easy enough, just be sure to take a position she agrees with and then try add your own spin. would not recommend this, especially as a senior seminar, but it's not a difficult class if that's your top priority.

Hated this class. She is very well respected in the psych. world for what she does. However the whole class felt as if she was looking to the students to help HER research. While the point of this class for us to learn how to do our own. Otherwise class was BEYOND easy, so if that is all you are looking for then take the class.

Though Barbra is a charming woman, her class was not quite organized and she was figuring out how the final work should be turned in up until the last day of class. Easy, interesting subject but she spends the whole class discussing ONE of her own studies. Love her, class itself needs a little work. But easy A if you do the weekly papers.

If you're going into this class, be prepared to work! She is extremely dedicated to her students and obviously has a huge passion for the subject, which makes the class great in itself. However, at times, I must admit some topics are left out or ignored because she hasn't studied them in her personal research. But overall, I'd recommend her!

Rogoff's got interesting theories--but she treats them as "fact" and bases the entire class around her book and her own ideas. Weekly essays are tedious and don't really have anything to do with helping you "learn"--you just repeat back what her book says to her to get a passing grade. If you're really curious, just read the book; avoid this class.

Rogoff has good ideas, but she doesn't explain them well. There are weekly essays that are pretty easy as long as you tell her what she wants to hear. She is not very clear though. There are no tests. She isn't a great lecturer either and class is boring as hell. I wouldn't recommend her...
