Avoid any class with him especially graduate level. I have had for several classes but at grad level his IS project management class was a nightmare. The homework was ridiculous. You will spend hours watching lecture, looking at slides, and scouring the textbook and just when you think you might have the answer. He will kill you on grading it.

You will constantly have to fight for points back on homework/ quizzes, etc due to inconsistent grading. Thats IF you know what you're doing. Otherwise, read the book and talk to a friend because you'll learn more from them than any time you have to spend in class.

Book contains mistakes, so you can't rely on it for homework assignments. Sometimes he won't tell you the book is wrong until after giving you a 0 on that problem, and then he won't change it. Grader is inconsistent--some students get points taken off while others don't. He speaks too quickly during lectures, but he welcomes questions. Tough class.

There are nonstop assignments and the teacher says in the syllabus "if you miss a single assignment, you are guaranteed to get a C at best". There is a quiz at the beginning of every class and you lose attendance points if you miss it. Also, he is quite inconsistent with his grading. I would love to have actually learned from this class.

I'm now an alum. Early in my undergrad I was kind of lazy, but throughout the program I transitioned from lazy to highly motivated, and I attribute a lot of that to the unique difficulty of Dr. Flachsbart's courses. Yes, his courses are a lot of work, but the real world is like that.

Pretty lousy teacher. Screwed up my grade by about 8%, but it didn't make a letter difference so I just went with it. No one really understood what was going on, but everyone passed. Thank god for (permitted) cribsheets and our class' google docs "collaborative study effort". lol I'm glad I'm done with good ole Barry.

Difficult class. Attendance not mandatory but highly recommended. Homework is relatively easy, but requires large amounts of time. Tests are normally difficult, but with a good crib sheet, you can preform well. You will walk away with a large amount of SQL knowledge if you do it right. Don't take this class lightly.

This professor expects those taking his class to work for it. He does not hand out good grade just for showing up. He expects you to learn the material and gives plenty of resources to assist. If you study hard and follow the class outlines, you will do well and learn a lot. I highly recommend for motivated students.

Absolute worst teacher of my educational career. If you ask for help on homework he will never give you a helpful answer just a vague one. He forces people to come to class with daily quizzes because nobody would show up otherwise. Most unflexable people i have ever met. One of THOSE tenure teachers who is to old and needs to know when to quit.

This guy has an ego, but loves students willing to learn. He is more than willing to meet with students or let you meet with the grader. He'll never give you a straight-up answer, but he'll guide you to the answer. He sometimes misspeaks, but if you site your source he will look into it. His homework and tests are fair--he'll regrade if you ask.

This is the worst IST teacher by far. He just reads from the text. Useless class. He provides no experience to the subject. He dosnt care for his students or their grades. Wont admit he is wrong. He wont give any out of class help other than giving a "read ahead in the book" answer. If you can skip his class, DO IT! To old for teaching.

Reads straight from the book, so you could just read it for yourself, but attendence is mandatory since he gives quizes every lecture. Will not admit he is ever wrong even if the book agrees with you. Speeds over important topics with no explanations. Knows his stuff, but dosnt know how to teach. I have an A and want to commit suicide! Boring!

Dr. Flachsbart is, by far, the most knowledgeable professor in the IST department. The only reason other students complain is because he actually assigns work. If you aren't lazy about your education, you will learn more from Dr. Flachsbart than all of your other classes combined. Wish I could take more of his classes before graduating.

Useless. All test questions come from homework. But test questions come from homework assignments that haven't even been ASSIGNED on the day of the test, so we have NOTHING to study from. It sucks that tenured professors are immune to being fired, he should've been canned years ago.

his teaching method is to speed-read his notes. he will not listen to or adequately answer questions. his classes are not helpful. if you have the option, choose another instructor.
