Hands down one of the best professors at Bowdoin. Fantastic lecturer, super knowledgeable and passionate about plants. Cares a ton about his students. He might not be the most accessible via email, but he usually replies eventually and puts in a lot of effort to help you out once you get a meeting with him.

Uhhh yeah so I definitely had classes in middle school that were harder than his class but hes a really cool guy, very eloquent/clear and informed on many grounds not science related. A great overall person, I would recommend this course to anyone who wants basic biology knowledge introduced/reinforced.

So great! My favorite class at Bowdoin by far. Lectures are amazingly clear, great use of power point and handouts. Barry is also very passionate about the topic, and gets very excited, making class very interesting. Tests are very hard!! He's very willing to meet and is very helpful with questions.

Barry was never my teacher, but he and I are friends. He's cool; perhaps one of the coolest professors on campus. Take on of his classes, go to his office hours, become his friend. It will be worth it.

good lectures but REALLY tough tests. 8:30 plant phys can be rough on friday mornings. be careful taking this class unless you're willing to put forth a lot of time and effort for tests and independent lab projects.

Extremely good lecturer (one of the best at Bowdoin) and a very nice guy. One of the toughest graders at Bowdoin, though. Demands better writing quality than English professors!
