even though I DESPISE english...I went from having an F to a C+ by the end of the semester (spring '10) Once I let down my guard and met with her outside of class, I understood what was required of me and how to go about doing so. one tip: READ ALL OF THE READINGS!!!

I have had two classes with Betsy, and regret not taking more. She is awesome. She's super smart and has a great sense of humor and hates condiments, especially ketchup (this is totally true). And for males and females interested in other females... it's alllll goooood. BOOYAKASHA

I really loved this class. Prof. Williamsen made me want to go to class. She is a tough grader, but I got an A on one of our assignments. Just make sure you really explain things as if you're talking to a child in your papers. (remember your audience has "no prior knowledge of the subject"). Overall she's really funny and very fun!

2nd Summer Session 2008. Betsy was awesome. She tended to be a bit strict, but certainly fair. Her grading made complete sense, and she was willing to help people if they were willing to try. She uses dry sarcasm/humor that a lot of people didn't get, and could incorrectly be perceived as rude. Oh, and she's a HUGE nerd (but that's a good thing).

I loved this class. I feel like I learned so much. You will do a lot of writing and she will be a very difficult grader, however, you will be better because of it. I felt like my writing improved tenfold because of this class.

Williamsen is a good teacher, but extremely heavy on homework. Expect to read more than any other L204 section and expect to write more than any other section. She rarely gives out A's.
