Learn lots of theory in this class. It may seem overwhelming at first. Professor is very knowledgeable in subject though. Take home midterm and final essay questions. Not extremely difficult at all if pay attention in class and look through readings

He's a great teacher. Nice man. His lectures are definitely not boring at all. Make sure you go to class though! Sometimes he randomly makes everyone turn in a paper with their names on it and counts it as a quiz.

His lectures are extremely interesting and a couple times he's rewarded those who attend lecture. He assigns a lot of reading, but I never did any of it because it helped just to go to lecture. Whatever he lecture on would show up on the tests.

Great teacher.Really knows his anthropology and is willing to share his knowledge.He seems like a tough guy but if you ask him about anything for the class he'll be very happy to help you out.A lot of reading,but it's to supplement the lectures,which are very interesting and can be really funny.Highly recommended.

Probably THE BEST PROFESSOR i've taken at UCI. The nicest, most caring professor ever. He is writing my letter of rec and is more on top of it than professors who i have been doing 3 years of research under. Kind of sad, but happy at the same time. Probably the ONLY professor I would stay in touch with after I graduate.

Easily one of the best professors at UCI. Maurer is a rare genius who stimulates a lot of profound, critical thinking in an open and casual environment. He's very pleasant and wants students to do well. Grades are based on participation, midterm, essay, and group project. Reading is a little heavy.

This was by far one of my favoritest classes at UCI to date. Prof Maurer is so funny. his lectures are entertaining. There is a good amount of reading, but you really dont have to do all of it--he goes over everything in lecture. the midterm was easy and we just did a research paper in GROUPS which was interesting and easy at the same time.
