Never again. So incredibly difficult. She nickel and dimes you for points and does not give you a clear explanation for the grade you receive.

Grades and gives feedback for assignments very quickly and reliably. I find the feedback to be thorough but unhelpful. Very very very tough course. Extremely detail oriented. If you take the course whip out evernote and write down ever term and date and memorize them. Also try submitting all assignments to OWL.

The professor had a clear lack of interest and investment in her students. Her "synthesis" of the material was very difficult to understand, and when I asked her for advice on how I could improve my performance, she "had no suggestions". In addition, she didn't even respond to 2/3 of my emails. WORST ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE EVER. TERRIBLE.

Comment:
Crazy based grade reductions based on grammatical errors. Seems to want you to restate every piece of information given. Doesn't seem to care much about thinking critically in your answer. Extremely high expectations for essay answers. Wants highly standard, precise, boring, formal, uninteresting writing.

Her Intro to Ethics class does not introduce ethics, it has too much of an emphasis on the background of Indian theology. The only actual ethics we covered was a brief definition. She is condescending, expects students to orally answer questions in essay format. I'm no more knowledgeable on ethics for having taken the class than I was before.

Her courses are certainly difficult, but she knows the subject matter and is willing to invest her time/energy into students who care about the subject matter. If you do philosophy (or perhaps religious studies, though don't bring any of that post-modern stuff to the table in class), then you should take any class she offers.

SHE IS AWESOME! She definitely knows what she is talking about. She has written several books on a variety of philosophical points. This is not a blow off class, you must be interested in the topic!

She's really funny and a good person, but a terrible professor. I almost failed this class because of her inability to answer e-mails. She gets very hung up on how you word an answer, and completely ignores whether you've comprehended the concept or not. I wouldn't take another class with this professor if you paid me.

She expects you to regurgitate every tiny detail that you have ever learned concerning the class material for all quizzes and tests. Class discussions are all over the place. There is no systematic order of topics. Don't expect to have any idea of what your grade is until it is submitted as final. She gives only straight grades A,B, etc

Gupta is a wonderful person and a great professor to know. She actually wrote the textbook we use in class, which is great because we only need to buy one paper-back book and not four or five from different philosophers. She has a pretty thick accent and is confusing at times, but if you can get through this class it will be worth it!

Prof Gupta is one of the most caring individuals I have ever met. She is a tough grader, true, but she also wants you to learn and grow as a student and will challenge you beyond just reading a repeating information. I enjoyed her class very much and recommend it to anyone interested in Philosophy, S Asia, or both.

She was pretty unapprochable for such a small class. Her notes are all over the place, and she does not really tell you what will be on the test. Be prepared to study a lot and decipher your notes. Only for those who really like philosophy.

I had a small class so there were no TA's, and she did a great job of handling the class herself. She was approachable in office hours, and did a great job of explaining the material (and responding to questions) so that it was very clear. A little tricky to understand at first, but you get used to it. And she's pretty funny too.

Kinda scary at first, but really not too bad once you get into the course. She can be pretty funny, and the tests aren't that bad if you just pay some attention in class.
