Comment:
Professor Plewe is a great professor. Sometimes it's hard to keep up with his instructions on assignments, but if you ask for help, he will give fantastic feedback without actually doing the work for you. Basically the best kind of teacher. I'm not sure if any other professors teach his classes, but for being the only option, he is a solid choice!

Comment:
He made GEO120 at least a 300 level class. Until halfway through the semester, he would assign webmaps with very little instructions on how to do well and everything was graded very harshly. Not only that but he is incredibly arrogant and I often felt bad for the TAs for having to work with him. Avoid this class like the plague.

Dr. Plewe is the best professor at BYU. He knows more than anyone else about GIS and the classes that I have taken from him have been the most beneficial classes in the major. He is very helpful all you have to do is go to his office and ask. He is always willing to help. Take as many classes from him as you can!

Plewe > Jensen.. everything I know about GIS, I know because of Plewe. He's an awesome teacher, he makes the material easy to understand, and he's very personable.

I've worked with most professors in the geography department and Dr. Plewe is by far the worst. He is always unclear about assignments and never clarifies his own mistakes. When I ask for help or advice he makes it seem like such a burden to help. Take Dr. Jensen or another professor who actually seems to care and teaches clearly, if possible.

I have had several classes from Dr. Plewe (GEOG 311, 312, 412, 521), and he is definitely the best GIS professor at BYU. He is extremely knowledgeable about GIS topics, and that shows in his lectures. He is also willing to give plenty of out-of-class help with assignments. Take Dr. Plewe if you want to get the most out of your GIS class.

Good professor but he changes the assignments ALL the time. Sometimes the same day they are due. Makes it really hard to get homework done.

I hated him at first because he grades so hard, but if you just take a few drafts to him to show your working hard and making the changes he wants you'll do fine. I've gotten to know him a lot better since then and realize now he's a really fun guy, he's just very busy and deals with a lot of crap, so he's usually tired. He's a good guy. If you work hard, and prove it to him, you'll do fine. Some very very interesting class subject matter too. He really knows his stuff.

He's very knowledgeable but not very helpful. Particularly for this class, it's like he knows what he wants the projects to look like but he can't quite communicate that and so it's almost impossible to get an A. That is, unless you are one of his favorite students.

Honestly the worst professor of my college career. He's only a professor because he loves geography but is to lazy to have any other job, and likes the access being a professor gives him to resources. He puts in 0 effort outside of the classroom and doesn't care about his students at all.

I really enjoyed his class. He's teaching to a class that should already know how to use the program he's using so if you don't know it's easy to get lost. A little bit of busy work doing labs but midterms were take home. An easy and fun class.

He's funny in a geeky kind of way but sometimes he talks way over your head. I left the class feeling like I hadn't learned anything but according to my grades on tests and projects I did okay. Definitely find someone who knows GIS when it comes project time and pay attention in lecture.

This prof is okay. He expects you to figure out a lot of things on your own and if you are taking alot of classes you probably won't have time to figure things out.. not really helpful with specifics. Find someone in class to work with you trust. Lots of lab work...lots of time required if you want an A.

I had a two and a half hour long lecture with him and I either fell asleep or left early. He really loves geography. You have to come to class everyday to take his daily quizzes. If you don't like geography, he's not going to convert you.
