Comment:

If math isn't your strong suit, this class will be hard no matter what. Brenda can be hard to communicate with, but she's really adaptable if you stick to your guns and ask for help. Spend a TON of time studying before class, or you will be lost. Tons of homework, but she is a slow grader. Show up, go to the STEM center, go to her office hours.

Brenda has an involved way of teaching, but it has done more to help me in my studies for math than other professors in the past. After taking 1010, 1050, and now 1210 from her, I can say that she grades fairly and puts more emphasis on overall understanding than the answers. Good choice IMO

I did not like the way she teaches math, she would go fast and instantly get defensive if you ask a question... I regret registering for her class if I am one minute late I feel behind. She told me to my face that the question I asked was something I should already know, she made me feel so dumb. Don't take math with her.

DO NOT take this class for 1030 if you're coming from 980. Her lectures were about 20 minutes long and the rest is the group project in class. Between writing assignments, quizzes, in-class assignments, and homework. You'll be burned out as soon as possible.

Amazing, amazing teacher. Her class was the only class I looked forward to going to when all of my other classes sucked. She was very structural and I knew exactly what she expected from all of us. She is very quick and consistent with grading. She followed the schedule on point all semester and I always knew what we were doing.

Comment:

First, she swears like a sailor in her classes. I found this rude, and incredibly disrespectful and unprofessional. Second, if you're like me, and don't really remember things on tests without notes, you're in deep trouble. She gives absolutely no source material, and grades like the devil. Sidenote, her voice is really annoying, her lectures suck.

I took her math 950 class, I ended up skipping class at least 2-3 times a week and referred to the online notes through the math department. I felt they taught a lot better. I would ask questions in class I was confused on and she would do half the problem and expect me to figure it out... not cool. Prepare to teach yourself.

Little to no direction on where she wants you to go on your papers, which by the way, you'll have many per week. She gives you 2 assignments a day and when you ask for feedback it takes days to get a response. I would have rather read the entire calculus book than do her assignments. My only class this semester and it took more time than 3 classes.

There's not enough negative to say about this professor. DO NOT TAKE HER. Her response to questions is to "google it." You're graded on how she wants things not how you got the answers. VERY strict, very unhelpful. Extremely rude comments and a complete lack of interest. No E.C. No second chances. Unclear on how she wants things. Second review next

I HIGHLY recommend you do NOT take her for calculus. She did a horrible job at explaining the material and expects you to know everything right off the bat. She assigns weekly activities that are hard to understand, I had to go the tutors everyday just understand one problem. Her tests are also very hard, confusing and tricky. Horrible!!!!

She is such a good teacher. She does a good job at explaining concepts and will always go over anything she is asked. Even on test day, if you are not sure how to do a specific type of problem just ask and she'll go over it. She gets a little excited when she grades tests and writes all over them and I know it offends some people. she is great!

I am horrible at math but Brenda was approachable, kind and willing to stay after class and answer questions and work with you. The material is tough but if you honestly try to learn and let her know that you want to do the work, she is there for you the whole way. One of the best math teachers that I had while going to SLCC.

Brenda was by far the best math teacher I have ever had. I struggle with math and I actually enjoyed going to her class each week. She's approachable and willing to go above and beyond to help, but you have to ask. Class is tough and you will have to study if math does not come easy to you, but I highly recommend her class.

I honestly have no good things to say about Brenda's teaching style. She wrote mean comments on my tests and makes learning new concepts extremely tough. She makes you feel stupid when you ask questions and intimidated to ask for help. Avoid her at all costs. Learning calculus is hard enough without rude teacher.

Homework is on canvas, this is better than paperbook homework. Canvas lets you know instantly if it's wrong and gives you infinite chances to get it right. No physical textbook just online canvas which has tutorial vids and online textbook. She can be silly and she is a master in her field. Can explain multiple ways to help you understand.
