He definitely knows a lot about the subject and is super passionate about it, but his lectures tend to be a little dry. Not a super difficult class, though. Two midterms, one research paper, and a final.

The study guide can be quite strenuous, you're expected to study the content for 12 questions and he will pick five out of the group on test day. Why not save us the trouble and give us the questions in the beginning? Second, he grades unfairly you shouldn't dock points off of a question for silly reasons, especially if the answer was correct.

He is the sweetest professor ever. He only assigns three essays the whole semester but they are very long and complex. He does let you rewrite two out of the three. He also gives you the final question beforehand so you are prepared. There are also weekly quizzes which get tedious but really aren't too bad, all quizzes are based off the three books

This class is a must-take for all psych majors. Sure, the lectures are long and the tests are essays, but I cannot believe how much information I retained from this class and how it pops up in every other class I take. All test questions are given ahead of time with opportunity to prepare. Great class, great professor. Wish I took this class sooner

Repetitive, boring, long lectures. Quizzes are easy but he's grading is weird. Not sure what he wants for essays. Would not take again.

Dr. Cox was a great professor. I had him for a first class seminar called The Resilient Child. The class was based off of 3 books all under $20 each. He gives you the quiz questions beforehand, you have 3 essays, and the final question you also receive beforehand. He also brought us on a field trip to the city. He is understanding, fair and fun.

After reading all of the comments from previous years, I find it apparent that Dr. Cox has read/heard about these comments. During class he made sure to always slow down and allow for questions and on many occasions he would say, "oh right, you're undergrads, you wouldn't know that," and then proceed to clearly explain. Great professor, very nice.

If you are genuinely interested in why psychology and science exists as it does today this class is a must. Dr. Cox gave me important tools to analyze psych using an historical and philosophical lens. Now, I always seem to have something to add to conversations about astrology, biology, philosophy etc. If you are lazy, don't take this class.

Dr. Cox is a very intelligent man. He tries his best to make a content-heavy class as interesting as possible. He gives you the exact questions that will be on the test, you have a chance to prepare the questions. There is no reason to do poorly in this class unless you don't put in the work. His office door is always open, he's always helpful.

I was so excited for this class, but it's nothing like I expected. Prof. Cox was nice, but extremely unorganized and expected way too much from a Freshmen seminar class. The papers were very difficult and with little explanation on what to do. He's a nice guy, but I wouldn't want to take a class with him again.

I had him for my freshman seminar. I was very interested in psychology, will never take psych again after this professor. Worst professor ever, very unhelpful. Teaches freshman like they have a background in psych. Felt like I was in a graduate class

Cox is a very intelligent man and I guarantee you will learn things in his class that you'll be able to use in your other psychology classes. Taking his class is a must if you want to go onto graduate school. Not easy or hard, he gives you exam questions and you research them and very fair grader. Oh and he's something like the chair of dept. =)

I didn't know about ratemyprofessors.com, but if I did I wouldn't have taken his class. It is extremely uninteresting and hard to follow. He is a nice person, but I wouldn't recommended taking classes with him, unless you already know what he's talking about or what the course will teach you- which is impossible.

If you want to be in a class where you find yourself engaged and interested, this is not the class for you. If you need to catch up on sleep or homework then go for it. I have gotten a lot of homework for other classes done in his class. I have never blatantly ignored a professor in my four years of college but this is truly an exception. Avoid.
