Comment:
Took the American Presidency. Class was entirely lecture-based except for the random two papers we had for our final assignment with no clear instructions. Very, very dry. You must read the book and attendance is mandatory. Tests are based on defining terms & depending on the TA can be graded harshly. He's pretty disorganized. Would not take again.

Originally took this class because a friend recommended it to me and told me that he had received an A- in the class. This was good news because he is a C student at best! I attended class regularly and took notes and got an A in the class which was pretty good for not studying too much for the exams. Would take Buchanan again!

Not the kind of guy who's going to babysit you, but gives a clear and fascinating take on the American presidency that doesn't show any personal bias on his part -- not always the easiest thing to do as a political prof.

Comment:
Extremely challenging class. I have no idea how the others survived, but I came into this class with a little understanding in "government." Yes, he lectures well and what he presents are interesting. However, the exams are ridiculously hard. My weakness was the reading and the lack of guidance. Not an easy A, and definitely not worth studying for.

Comment:
Dr. Buchanan is a brilliant presidential historian but his course on the Presidential Accountability System was often repetitive and boring. Small class and attendance is mandatory. Pretty lenient grading on test but tough on presentation. Heavily discussion-based course and great opportunity to hash it out with an expert in the field.

Super nice guy...Going into this course I was expecting more than what I actually received. I think he's a great lecturer, tells stories to explain everything... BUT I found myself falling asleep in the class very often.

Absolutely one of the greatest professors I've ever had. He's very engaging and passionate about what he teaches, and one of the most well-spoken people I've ever had the privilege to listen to. There's a lot of readings, but they're very interesting. 2 multiple-choice midterms (45% lecture, 45% readings and 10% current events) and a 2-essay final

Very smart man. He does an excellent job of conveying what he thinks is important (what will be on the tests). He has a bit of a monotone voice, but other than that very good prof and class

One of the worst instructors I ever had. I'm a political junkie and I found his American Presidency class to be very boring. About 60% of what he taught or required the class to read had very little to do with the American Presidency. His lecture style left a lot to be desired.
