Bruce does not leave you with any time for other classes. If you want to get an A in his class, be prepared to take C's in everything else. He's intelligent but arrogant, and knowingly overloads his students. He's willing to help students achieve the grades they desire, but at no small cost. Prepare yourself for a rough semester.

This was probably one of my favorite classes at Canisius. Dr. Dierenfield is very intelligent. We watched a lot of documentaries and had open class discussions most of the time. He gave a review sheet for every test and the papers were open to a wide variety of options. Highly recommended.

Comment:

Dierenfield is a great professor and very intelligent. There is a lot of reading in this class and he tests whether you've read with easy quizzes. Grades on a curve so it's not that bad. Also, he gives great study guides which will tell you exactly what is on the quiz. Great professor if you actually want to learn.

Guy really has a taste for the morbid and gets in to the teaching. Not a bad professor if you're interested in multiple choice quizzes ever other week...Has to be seen to be believed, you'll see why he was used as an extra in Black Sun, because of the goriness he usually tries to relate to students.

very dry, if you don't agree with him it's hard to do well, boring reading materials, prepare to push your way into participating (girls have a disadvantage...he always called on boys more, even when there were more girls in the class!)

wow! great class! I found him boring at first, but by the end I really liked it. Really great guy who cares about his students. Read the one text book and you will get an A. 6 quizzes, 2 papers. Pay attention and you will do well. Again, great class!

He expects the world out of his students and requires an INSANE amount of reading-an entire novel for just one 75-minute class discussion. To be fair, he tries to help you achieve a good final grade, but in an odd way-he's a tough grader and has tons of requirements on the research paper.

I never met a man that was so rude and demanding. His arrogance and short temper irritate me to no end. I have respect for Dr. Dierenfield as a historian because he works very hard, but I have absolutely no respect for him as a human being.

Not very much work, 6 quizzes, 2 papers, and you have to read 1 book. He is very boring, everything he talks about in class he has visited taught there knew somebody who was a part of the war, he has personal experience with every topic. Pretty easy class if you study for the quizzes

I'm sorry, but anyone who requires his class to buy an out of print book that was not included on his syllabus is out of his mind. Very boring class, he expects you to be history experts, and his required reading is ridiculous. That and he cuts down entire forests to make his useless handouts.
