Comment:

Pretty much what you would expect from a public speaking course. She does assign a fair amount of work outside of just giving your speeches, so make sure you do your homework because it adds up. Speeches are easy, never longer than 4-6 minutes and she grades fair as long as you put forth a decent effort.

Professor Toomey is an excellent teacher. I love her teaching styles and the way she explains things. She gives good suggestions for speech topics and she will help you through anything.

This class is very easy if you just show up and do your speeches. She does not baby you, she expects you to have your work done when it is due. She is very lenient with grading speeches so if you aren't the best speaker, don't be afraid. There are tons of extra credit opportunities to make up for anything. I would recommend her.

Easy class, lots of extra credit opportunities. Pretty laid back professor and very understanding. Just do the work and you'll be fine. Videotapes all speeches. Takes attendance every day.

Good professor. She gives out lots of opportunities for extra credit. Her grading is fair. Her assignment are sometimes confusing because of the way she explains it. Work hard and you will get an A. You are not in high school.

On the critique side:The assignments were lame and sitting thru 30 speeches on awful topics was painful.She takes attendance and counts participation as a major source of points for your grade so you have to show up. On the bright side:Toomey is entertaining, and approachable just do your speeches, show up and you will get a great grade.

This course was really easy if you went to it. All the material was clear and very easy to know what was expected. If you follow the assignments you'll do fine. The Professor is extremely nice and helpful, overall very enjoyable class!

bad professor. i felt like i was in high school. even though i participated in discussions she dropped my participation grade oh, and during mid-terms, i had to leave early so i get up to leave and she goes where r u going, my response to take a mid term. in front of the whole class she says i want an email of what ur realy doing.

Mrs. Toomey was a fun professor for CAS 100A. There were times where she spent more time talking rather than us actually giving the speeches, but she was overall well prepared and a good grader. She was enjoyable to have for this class.

absolutly a horrible class. she didnt know what was going on with the syllabus. she had double standards with students. she liked me but but if i were to grade her on her class, i would give it a D or a C- at its best. she changed her grading style at the end of the class so it messed everybody up and dropped your grade unecessarily!

I have no idea why people are giving Prof. Toomey bad ratings! I personally HATE public speaking, but this class was so easy and good for me. You only have 5 or 6 main speeches throughout the semester and she gives extra credit! Her grading is very self-explanatory and she gives you plenty of time to prepare. I definately recommend taking her class

take this class if you want to give an un-necessary amount of speaches. she teaches like it is a highschool class, only without the updates as to when assignments are due. she grades unfairly and also likes to videotape the speeches. she failed to prove why the class was necessary, and why certain things were assignend.

Wow...what class are you taking? Toomey is GREAT...she's a sweet woman and is easy to reach if you're having problems. She gives instant feedback on assignments, and come on folks, a syllabus is NOT set in stone. If you were a professor would you have every second of a class mapped out before the semester? No. Cut her a break, she's very good.

This class was so easy. The only problem is that the confidence that is built up for giving the speeches ends when the class ends. We get use to giving the speeches in front of those people in the class. It doesn't really help outside the class.
