Echelbarber is the best professor I've ever experienced. He is one of the most intelligent people on campus, and we are lucky to have him at Oswego. If you do even 1/2 the amount of studying that is expected, you'll ace the assignments. He is a genius. If you care about knowledge and truth, you'll want to stay close to this man.

Opens PDF, reads PDF while kids nod off, gives out essay topics, take exam. Repeat for second half of semester. his PDF's are clear and sufficient for tests, but not for those that are really interested. Knows a ton -- walking encyclopedia of philosophy, would be an excellent class with more interaction on both sides of the podium. Seems tired.

He is quite possibly the most dry professor on campus. He opens documents on the screen and reads them to you-that's class. It's a form of slow torture. His quizzes are all true/false which makes them a little difficult, however his midterms are short response and he grades them fairly. He's incredibly intelligent, but I'd rather watch paint dry.

I've been told that if you just memorize his brief PDF's you'll get decent grades. I woud not know, I read the book, love the serious attitude lent to the subject by the teacher and got a A. If you can't figure this class out, PLEASE let me help you. Request a tutor for the class. I LOVE to liven up the material and Echelbarger is a sweet man.

Echelbarger is an incredibly intelligent man. His lectures can be dry, but if you engage in the lecture it is a lot more fun and can benefit you a whole lot more. very easy to talk to and is funny and witty with his dry sarcastic humor. Echelbarger is a great man to talk to if you need help with anything in the philosophy department.

Veeerry boring class! If you go into the class knowing absolutely nothing about philosophy(like me) you will not understand a thing!his quizzes are indeed T/F but they are very hard. The exams are easier b/c you can write down as much as you know bc they are short answer. Review shts for every test.If ur taking this for a GE pick another one!

I actually feel bad, I came into this course with some but not a lot of interest in the topic. I did not do very well in the class but it is not the professors fault that the material is dry and VERY boring. He does tend to just read from his notes but is very knowledgable on the topic. Nice guy, boring topic!

A great professor, though sometimes dry and monotonous. If you're not willing to put in the effort to read the text, don't take this class. All quizzes are T/F which is sometimes confusing. No essays except for the final which he let us bring in notes for.

Dr. E. knows a ton about philosophy but unfortunately it seemed like he expected us to. I thought so many times about switching but in the end i got an A since he gave students +10 just for not skipping class. Stick with his class...he is an easy grader...which is a good thing cause some of the stuff we covered was so damn complicated. Nice guy.

Professor is extremely knowledgable in material. His classes will be difficult for students not interested in/no background in philosophy. But, if you're one who IS interested...he's your man. The extent of his knowledge is infinite.

The class is pretty hard. I didn't really understand what was going on, but before every test I would just memorize the information from the end of the chapter and I managed to get decent grades. I think he tries really hard to make sure everyone passes, all sorts of grade curving. Nice guy.

If you know nothing about philosophy, you won't learn it here. It seems like he's talking a mile a minute in some other language, and when I asked for help twice, he just told me to keep reading the text, which didn't help. All of his quizzes are T/F. It got so bad that I had to drop the course, and he wasn't too nice to me when I tried to explain.

I took his history of modern philosophy course. He's a good professor and he knows his material well, but he's monotonous and the material is hard to interpret. Took it as a gen ed requirement and wouldn't recommend that to anyone. Way too much reading and reasoning. If you're interested, go for it!
