Literally the greatest professor you could ever have. He loves the courses he is teaching, and has so much passion. There's a bit of reading you have to do, but honestly its all enjoyable and easy/fast. If you tell him that you have a midterm coming up and don't have time to write a paper, he'll give an extension. He is the greatest prof I've had!!

Prof Sligh is actually the nicest person on the planet. His class was my favorite all semester. I took his ENWR which is based on Sherlock Holmes, therefore it is very reading intensive. Most of the stories are short stories though so it was manageable. There were 3 essays and a final and they were not difficult. 15/10 would recommend to a friend.

Sligh is a superb prof who genuinely recognizes and rewards his students' efforts and enthusiasm. He wants us to do well evident through his extra credit assignments, essay revision opportunities, and fairly easy open-book midterm. There's quite a bit of homework reading but he chooses very enjoyable topics, such as the Sherlock Holmes stories!

Charles Sligh is a kind and uplifting professor who is open to help whenever you need it. His essay grading is slightly strict, but he gives you quite a few extra credit opportunities as well as a very easy midterm to help boost your grade. Knows a lot about the subject he teaches and loves hearing different points of views from his students.

I love Charles Sligh. He is a gem in the English dept, and unlike some English professors, he rewards students for what they do well in writing instead of critiquing based on his own writing style.

After two semesters, Dr. Sligh has been my favorite teacher at UVA, and I don't think that anyone will be able to top him. I actually took his class in the fall, but am revisiting this page to write a review because I don't think he receives enough praise for the passion he brings into the classroom. Would definitely take again if I had the chance!

Wow. Just wow. Dr. Sligh is one of the reasons why the English dept at UVA rocks. He's a genuinely altruistic human being who rewards creativity. Even if he completely disagrees with your interpretation, he will acknowledge what you do well in papers. You won't even know he disagrees! Vastly underrated, under-acknowledged professor!

Fabulous professor! His lectures are thought provoking and purely fantastic. Easily the most fun class I had this semester. There is a lot of readying and a few papers but nothing too crazy.

Ghost Stories was one of the most amazing classes I've taken. Professor Sligh is amazing! You will have to read a lot- sometimes more than I could handle from Tuesday to Thursday. I highly recommend him.

I personally found that going to lectures is necessary in order to understand the readings more clearly. I chose to take notes on my laptop during every lecture, then I used these notes (usually 5 pages for one book) for about half of my paper we wrote. Basically, cutting my work load in half for the paper. Your grade is all in the paper!

Extremely fair, he KNOWS if you haven't done the work. Loves his subject and is open to new ideas. What all teachers should be like.
