Comment:
Dr. Flannery is a top-notch honors professor. He's very understanding and cares about his students. He balances out how much he talks vs. how much the colloquy is student-led. I would take him every semester if I could. He's absolutely brilliant and has inspired me in so many ways. Come in with an open mind and you will learn so much from him.

Flannery is a good person but not the best teacher. The point of the honors college colloquy is to discuss among peers and he always seemed to do all the talking. I also was never able to get a high grade on his papers because he was unclear with what he wanted. I even went in to see him and left more confused than when I started.

It was a philosophy class so the difficulty was partially to do with the difficult subject matter, however, Flannery is known to be difficult and he was but he works really hard to try to get the class to think through the subject matter by discussing the topics. Not many assignments just three essays and one final but they are worth a lot.

The most brilliant professor I've ever had. This class was very discussion-based, and one must keep up with readings diligently in order to have any clue. Writing style is important-pol.sci. type- but content is philosophical (I loved that, but others might not.) I would take him again just to experience his brilliance.

This proffesor is well know for being horrible. Students in political science department avoid taking him whenever possible. He is anal about papers, starts class with a BS convestion regarding whatever he wants (wasting class time), and he hardly teaches anything. If you excpet to pass the class, you will have to teach yourself everything.

This teacher doesn't understand how to teach, instead he wants people to learn on there own. He doesn't discuss what is going to be on the tests and grades badly.

This man is brilliant. That said DON'T DO IT!! He is so smart he is not a good teacher. His attendance policy is ridiculous and you don't learn all that much. There is no real way to prepare for the exams all year but you must do well on them and work in a group to construct ideas for the heavily weighted papers.Nice but unreasonable

Dr. Flannery is a truly brilliant professor. Make no mistake, his class is rigorous and challenging but you will learn an incredible amount. He has a degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science and it shows. He has a wealth of knowledge. He doesn't placate students and expects them to perform at a college level. Take Him!!!

I love Dr. Flannery! If you're not motivated to show an in depth process of thought and analysis, then don't take this class. He wants to see a thoughtful mind at work and so puts a lot of weight on writing.

Some people love him, some people hate him. And it will all depend whether he likes or dislikes you and your writing style. This class is completely philosophic; if you're not good at philosophy, take Modern. I struggled in this class because he didn't like my writing style. While I learned, I don't think my grades were appropriate for the my work.

Worst Teacher Ever!!!!! I am rated him to save people......his attendance policy is crazy you can actually get marked absence multiple times in one day and being late is absent. He only wants you to think everything he says is true and you learn nothing more then his opinions.

Dr. Flannery's great! I learned so much in his class!! Truly gives you an even deeper appreciation for the Founders and corrects misrepresentations of the Founding era. He is hard and demanding, but don't be a lazy student. Make an effort and be the better person for it. 2 exams, 1 paper, lots of participation.

Worst professor I have ever had at APU. This is the first time I've ever rated a Prof, he was so bad that it compelled me to write this. He only desires for his students to regurgitate his answers back to him. Avoid.

Dr. Flannery is one of my favorite professors here. He's a tough grader, but an excellent and approachable teacher. You should want your major classes to challenge you, so every APU PoliSci major should take him at least once. Take thorough notes during lectures, participate in discussions and note pages of your book that he says are important.

Flannery is great. He has a passion for politics and for learning in general. If you looking for an easy prof find a different section, but if you really want to learn Flannery is amazing. Keep up on the reading, two tests and two papers.

I absolutely loved this class! Flannery cares about his students, he wants them to do well, and he knows what he is talking about. The class basically looks like this: read the material, discuss it in class, and write papers on it. He tests you on what you know (i.e. writing papers), not on what you don't (i.e. lots of tests).

Take notes, on the papers write down what he told you in class. The mid-term and final are the hardest parts. Really boring, but go to class because participation will boost your grade at the end.

Classical Political Thought was the best class I have ever taken. Stimulating and challenging. Listen to his lectures and take good notes and you'll be fine.I didn't think I would get an A but did.Don't expect it as you do have to earn it but it is possible. Best prof in a major that is full of good profs. He's a cut above (and knows it, yes).

WORST professor that I've ever had!!! It took him over two months to remember my name...he knew the rest of the class though! His class is VERY boring. All he does is lecture in class about books you read outside of class. If you need help from him, don't bother...he isn't helpful at all!!!! DON'T TAKE HIM!!!!!!!!!!

What shall I say about the Flan-man? He's a brilliant guy but class time was mediocre. The same stuff was repeated over and over again. He is a very hard grader and I'm desperately hoping for an A-. Class is very laid back, as is his teaching. You might love his classes or hate them; it really depends on each person.
